PC Splits Twin Bill with SC State

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College softball team dropped the opener, but bounced back to win the second contest against South Carolina State on Tuesday afternoon at the PC Softball Complex. The Bulldogs took game one 8-0, and then the Blue Hose snagged the finale, 3-1.

NOTABLES
- Haley Haselden started both games in the circle for PC. The southpaw tallied 13 strikeouts for the afternoon, including a career-high tying eight in the opener. In the finale, Haselden yielded just three hits, and fanned five more Bulldogs.
- Rebecca Clark was the lone Blue Hose to pick up a hit in both games. She went 2-for-4 with a run scored for the day.
- Kiley Kross had a pair of RBI's to lead Presbyterian for the day. She hit her second homer of the season in game two.
- Kaitlyn Tucker reached all three times she came to the plate in game one, picking up a single and two walks.
- Kaitlyn Petty got on base in all three of her plate appearances in the finale, collecting two hits and a walk. The two hits equaled Petty's career-best.
- Making her collegiate debut, freshman Sara Shaw worked an inning and two-thirds out of the bullpen in the opener and picked up her first collegiate strikeout.
- Fellow freshman Addi Lyle made her collegiate debut in the finale, earning a start behind the plate.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1
- The game remained scoreless until the fourth. SC State broke the deadlock with a three-run homer, then added four more runs to go in front, 7-0.
- The Bulldogs tacked on an insurance run in the top of the fifth.
- PC put a pair of runners on base in the home half of the frame, but were turned away.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 2
- The Blue Hose struck first, loading the bases in the bottom of the second for Courtney White, who drove in Jillian Hewes to make it 1-0.
- Kross extended PC's edge to 2-0 in the third with a sacrifice fly that plated Clark.
- SCSU pulled a run back in the fifth, but Haselden kept the Blue Hose in front with an inning-ending strikeout, which left the potential tying run at second base.
- Kross led off the sixth with a solo home run to restore PC's two-run edge.
- The Bulldogs put the first two aboard in the seventh, but a double play and a bounce out sealed the win for the Blue Hose.
