Long Ball Sinks Blue Hose in Series Finale

ROCK HILL, S.C. – A couple of solo home runs proved to be the difference on Sunday afternoon as Presbyterian College fell 2-0 at Winthrop in the finale of the two teams' three-game Big South Conference series.

NOTABLES
- Jenna Greene tossed a complete game for the Blue Hose, limiting the Eagles to three hits while striking out eight. The complete game was the 22nd of Greene's collegiate career, which ties her for fifth in the program's DI era (since 2008).
- Katelyn Petty led PC at the plate with a pair of singles, tying her career high. It marked the second multi-hit game of the season for the junior.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Two of the first three Blue Hose singled in the top of the first, but Winthrop retired the next two batters to keep PC off the board.
- The Eagles broke the deadlock with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the second.
- WU began the home half of the third with another long ball to make it 2-0.
- Petty led off the seventh inning with a single to bring the tying run to the plate, but the Eagles retired the next three Blue Hose in order to seal the win.
 
UP NEXT
Presbyterian returns home on Wednesday for a twin bill against Western Carolina. First pitch is scheduled for 2 pm.
