Football Battles Stetson on Saturday Afternoon

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College football team heads to the sunshine state on Saturday afternoon for a 1 p.m. kick against Stetson. The game will be played at Spec Martin Memorial Stadium and will also be broadcast on ESPN+.

Last Time Out
• The Presbyterian College Football team recorded a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns as San Diego held on late for a 24-21 victory on Saturday afternoon at Bailey Memorial Stadium.
Brandon Thompson passed for a career-high 323 yards while recording two passing touchdowns and a rushing score.
Colby Campbell led the Blue Hose defense with 15 tackles including 10 solo stops.
 
Opponent Profile
• Stetson comes into Saturday's game with an 0-2 record following a 31-14 defeat against Morehead State on March 20th. The Hatters had their game last week against Drake canceled due to COVID-19 protocols.
• Alex Piccirilli has completed 60.4% of his passes thru two games with a pair of passing scores. He has also rushed for 156 and three touchdowns this spring.
• The Hatter defense is led by Ethan Hull who has 23 tackles over two games, while Rassie Littlejohn has 16 stops.
 
Blue Hose in the Ranks
Colby Campbell sits third in the FCS ranks averaging 12.5 tackles per game through four games.
Keith Pearson leads the PFL and is seventh in all of FCS with 8.2 receptions per game this spring. He's also 10th in the country with 113.2 receiving yards per game and is 13th with 453 total receiving yards.
• Quarterback Tyler Huff is 12th in all of FCS with 22.67 completions per game. Huff is also 12th in ranks overall with 290.7 total yards of offense per games.
• Pearson is 15th nationally with 137.25 all-purpose yards game.
 
Quarterbacks Continuing to Fill Stat Sheet
• The Blue Hose quarterbacks have continuted to fill up the stat sheets thru the first four weeks of the spring.
Brandon Thompson and Tyler Huff are averaging 264.8 passing yards per game, while scoring nine touchdowns thru the air and the pair has scored three rushing scores (Huff x2, Thompson).
• Thompson got the start against San Diego and didnt dissapoint. He had a career-high 323 passing yards while accounting for three touchdowns (two passing, one rushing) in a 24-21 defeat against the Torerors.
• Huff on Saturday against Davidson passed for 218 yards for his third straight game with 200+ yards passing along with a career-high three touchdowns.
• In week two, Huff passed for 211 yards, while adding 71 rushing yards and accounting for three touchdowns in PC 31-16 win over Morehead State.
• Huff opened his 2021 spring against Gardner-Webb with his best stat line of his collegiate career.
• Huff completed a career-high 29 pass for 307 yards (also a career-high) and a pair of touchdowns. He also added a score on the ground.
• He became the first 300+ yard performance in Blue Hose DI history since Hays McMath totaled 322 yards during the 2013 season against VMI.
• Huff's 29 completions is the first Blue Hose to complete 25+ passes since Will Brock completed 25 during the 2016 season against Florida Tech.
 
Huff & Pearson Earn PFL Weekly Honors
• Sophomore quarterback Tyler Huff and senior wide receiver Keith Pearson have earned the Pioneer Football League offensive and special teams player of the week honors respectively following their performances on Saturday in a 31-16 victory over Morehead State for the Blue Hose.
• Huff was responsible for three touchdowns in Presbyterian's 31-16 victory against Morehead State, Saturday.
• He completed 17-of-28 passes for 211 yards and threw for two touchdowns, including a 65-yard strike to Matthew Rivera. Huff also ran for 71 yards and a touchdown, including a 14-yard scoring scamper for Presbyterian's final touchdown.
• Pearson's 65-yard punt return in the third quarter set a Presbyterian DI era record in a 31-16 victory against Morehead State, Saturday.
• His 65-yard return broke the record set in 2013 and Presbyterian made it pay off three plays later with a touchdown run by Huff. Pearson averaged 25.0 yards per return on three punt returns against Morehead State. The senior wideout also added seven catches for 54 yards to his stat line on Saturday.
 
PC Begins 108th Season of Football
• Presbyterian is set to begin its 108th season of football in the spring of 2021. The program has fielded a football team every season since its inaugural season in 1913. PC has amassed 504 victories in the program's extensive history.
• The Blue Hose will play a six game PFL schedule in the spring of 2021. PC will not be eligible for the PFL Championship this spring due to still being considered an FCS independent team.
• PC has managed 52 winning seasons throughout its history with the last coming in 2014.
• Prior to turning Division I in 2007, PC was a member of the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) for 32 seasons from 1975 to 2006.
 
Campbell Looks To Rewrite History Books
• Senior Linebacker Colby Campbell with two more sacks can take the program-record for sacks in a Blue Hose D1 career. He enters 2020 with 12.0 sacks and Brian Davis holds the D1 program record with 13.0 sacks.
• Campbell ranks second in the D1 program record book with 309 tackles. Donelle Williams holds the D1 program record with 402 stops.
• He also ranks fourth in solo stops (157) and second in assisted tackles (152).
