Five-Run Sixth Helps Blue Hose Split at GWU

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Presbyterian College softball team plated five runs in the top of the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie and win the second game of its doubleheader at Gardner-Webb 9-1 on Friday afternoon. GWU won the twin bill opener, 3-1.

NOTABLES
- Kaitlyn Tucker reached base seven times over the two games, collecting three hits and four walks. In game two, the freshman also scored twice, drove in a run and stole the first base of her collegiate career.
- Rebecca Clark was the lone other Blue Hose to have at least one hit in both contests. She compiled three hits for the day, including a solo home run in the opener, and picked up an RBI in each game.
- Haley Haselden earned the complete game victory in game two, striking out seven while holding the Runnin' Bulldogs to just one hit.
- Jenna Greene went the distance in game one and struck out eight.
- Courtney White reached three times and notched a pair of hits in game two. She and Lath Freeman each scored twice in the finale.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1
- Gardner-Webb plated all three of its runs in the bottom of the second inning.
- PC got a runner to third in the second, third and fifth innings, but were turned away all three times.
- Clark launched her second home run of the season in the sixth to get the Blue Hose on the board.
- Presbyterian put the tying runs on base in the seventh, but the Runnin' Bulldogs held on to take the opener.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 2
- Clark drove in PC's first run of game two, plating Tucker with a single.
- GWU answered in the home half with a run of its own to tie it.
- White scored the go-ahead run in the sixth, racing home on a passed ball. Layna Johnson drove in a run with a single, Freeman scored on an error and Katelyn Petty singled in two to cap the five-run outburst.
- In the seventh, PC added three more on bases loaded walks drawn by Johnson and Tucker, with the third run scoring on a wild pitch.
