How it Happened
- A 7-2 run early in the first set helped Charleston Southern get out to an 8-5 edge. With the Bucs on top 17-13, Presbyterian put together four straight points to ignite a 9-1 surge which put the Blue Hose in front, 22-18. Cairns then tallied kills on three of the final four points of the frame to give PC the first set.
- The Bucs rattled off nine straight points and 12 of 13 in the early stages of the second frame to seize a 14-5 advantage. Down 15-6, Presbyterian began to mount a charge, using 5-0 and 3-0 runs to draw within 18-16. After CSU pushed the margin back to four, 20-16, the Blue Hose ripped off four straight to even the set at 20-20. The Buccaneers once again took the lead, and got the frame to set point at 24-22. Presbyterian fought off three set points and turned a 25-24 deficit into a 27-25 set victory courtesy of kills by Hannah Chapman and Cooke, and a Jones service ace.
- Charleston Southern got out to a 10-4 start in the third set, but PC quickly reeled off four straight to get the margin back to 10-8. Presbyterian eventually got back to within one at 16-15, before a 4-0 spurt extended CSU's cushion back to 20-15. The Blue Hose battled back to within 20-18, but the Bucs closed the frame with a 5-1 run to extend the match into a fourth set.
- Presbyterian opened the fourth set with three straight points, but CSU answered with nine of the next 11 to seize a 9-5 lead. A 5-1 spurt helped the Blue Hose draw level at 12-12. The Buccaneers countered with a 6-0 run to take an 18-12 edge. PC tallied six of the ensuing seven points, cutting the margin to one, 19-18. The Bucs were able to hold off the Blue Hose, rattling off six of the next eight to force the match into a decisive fifth frame.
- CSU kept its momentum going into the fifth set, as the visitors jumped out to an 8-2 lead. Trailing 10-4, PC put together a rally to climb back to within 11-10. The Blue Hose could not quite overtake the Buccaneers, however, and Charleston Southern was able to hold on to clinch the set and match victories.
