Kross, Tweed Homer in Wednesday Setbacks

CLINTON, S.C. – Kiley Kross hit her team-leading fifth home run of the season and Jaiden Tweed launched her fourth of the year, but Presbyterian College fell to Furman 5-2 and 2-0 in non-conference softball action on Wednesday afternoon.

NOTABLES
- Kross had a team-high three hits for the day and reached a total of four times. Her home run in game one was her team-leading fifth of the season.
- Lexi Palazzo also picked up a knock in both contests for the Blue Hose.
- Jenna Greene went the distance in game two and piled up 10 strikeouts, her fourth double-digit strikeout performance of the season.
- Haley Haselden tossed a complete game in the opener and struck out six. The southpaw retired eight Paladins in a row at one point and the only two baserunners she yielded after the third inning were both caught stealing by Lath Freeman.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1
- Furman opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the first.
- The Paladins tallied two more in the third, stretching their advantage to 5-0.
- The Blue Hose responded with two of their own in the home half. Kross led off with a solo home run, and Tweed followed later with a solo shot of her own to get PC within three.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 2
- Game two remained scoreless until a two-out single in the fourth delivered the first run of the contest for Furman.
- The Paladins tacked on another run in the sixth to make it 2-0.
- PC brought the tying run to the plate in both the sixth and seventh frames, but were turned away both times.
 
UP NEXT
The Blue Hose and Paladins are scheduled to meet for another doubleheader next Wednesday, May 5, in Greenville. First pitch of game one is set for 5 pm.
