Football Wraps Up Home Slate with Senior Day Saturday

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College football team closes out its home slate for the 2021 spring season on Saturday morning with senior day against Davidson slated for an 11 a.m. kickoff from Bailey Memorial Stadium. Prior to kickoff, the football program will honor 15 student-athletes who will be playing in their final home games on Saturday. Saturday's game is a rematch from a March 20th game in Davidson that saw the Wildcats pick up a 41-24 victory.

Last Time Out
• Sophomore defensive back Jeffrey Smyth recorded a pair of interception returns for a touchdown as the Presbyterian College football team picked up a 26-3 victory on Saturday afternoon at Spec Martin Memorial Stadium. Smyth had a 30 & 52-yard interception return for a touchdown in Saturday's victory.
• Smyth became the second Blue Hose in the DI era to record two interceptions in one game. Rock Ya-Sin had two picks during a 2017 game against Monmouth.
Oka Emmanwori got the Blue Hose on the board with an 88-yard kickoff return in the first quarter. It was the first kickoff return for a touchdown since 2013 when Jeremiah McKie recorded a 97-yard return against VMI.
 
Opponent Profile
• Davidson comes into Saturday's contest with a 4-1 record following a 31-25 victory over San Diego last time out that ended the Toreros 39-game PFL win streak.
• The Wildcats are led under center by Tyler Phelps who has totaled 562 passing yards and six touchdowns this spring. He has also added 208 rushing yards and a touchdown.
• On the ground, Dylan Sparks leads the way with 457 rushing yards and four touchdowns, while Coy Williams has 424 yards rushing and four touchdowns.
• On defense, Jake Alexander leads the way with 39 tackles including 4.0 tackles for loss and a sack. Jonathan Hammond leads the team with 7.0 tackles for loss.
• The Wildcats lead all FCS teams with 297.6 rushing yards per game this spring and sit third in the nation with a 53.1% third down conversion percentage.
 
Blue Hose in the Ranks
Colby Campbell sits second in FCS currently with 12.8 tackles per game.
Keith Pearson enters Saturday fifth in recieving yards per game (108.8), sixth in receptions per game (7.8), eighth in receiving yards (544) and 14th in all-purpose yards per game (128.0).
• Campbell also ranks eighth in FCS football with 6.8 solo stops per game.
 
Emmanwori & Smyth Earn PFL Weekly Honors
• Sophomore defensive back Jeffrey Smyth has been named the Pioneer Football League's defensive player of the week as announced by the league on Sunday.
• Sophomore defensive back Oka Emmanwori was also named the league's Co-Special teams player of the week on Sunday. The pair accounted for all three touchdowns for the Blue Hose in a 26-3 victory on Saturday afternoon against Stetson.
• Smyth became the 28th FCS player – and the first since 2013 – to return two interceptions for a touchdown in the same game, providing two of the three Presbyterian touchdowns in a 26-3 victory at Stetson on Saturday afternoon. He recorded a 30-yard interception return for a touchdown in the second quarter and followed that up with a 52-yard pick-six in the third quarter to enter the record book.
• Emmanwori got the Blue Hose offense out to a fast start on Saturday with an 88-yard kickoff return for a touchdown en route to the 26-3 victory. After Stetson took a 3-0 lead, Emmanwori returned the ensuing kickoff to the house to give Presbyterian the lead they would not relinquish. It was the first kickoff return for a touchdown since 2013 when Jeremiah McKie recorded a 97-yard return against VMI.
 
Smyth Earns National Honor
• Sophomore Defensive back Jeffrey Smyth has been named the Stats Perform FCS National Defensive Player of the week as announced on Monday. The award comes a day after Smyth was named the Pioneer Football League's defensive player of the week.
 
Quarterbacks Continuing to Fill Stat Sheet
Brandon Thompson and Tyler Huff are averaging 245.0 passing yards per game, while scoring nine touchdowns thru the air and the pair has scored three rushing scores (Huff x2, Thompson).
• Thompson got the start against San Diego and didn't disappoint. He had a career-high 323 passing yards while accounting for three touchdowns (two passing, one rushing) in a 24-21 defeat against the Torerors.
• Huff on Saturday against Davidson passed for 218 yards for his third straight game with 200+ yards passing along with a career-high three touchdowns.
• In week two, Huff passed for 211 yards, while adding 71 rushing yards and accounting for three touchdowns in PC 31-16 win over Morehead State.
• Huff opened his 2021 spring against Gardner-Webb with his best stat line of his collegiate career.
• Huff completed a career-high 29 pass for 307 yards (also a career-high) and a pair of touchdowns. He also added a score on the ground.
• He became the first 300+ yard performance in Blue Hose DI history since Hays McMath totaled 322 yards during the 2013 season against VMI.
 
 
PC Begins 108th Season of Football
• Presbyterian is set to begin its 108th season of football in the spring of 2021. The program has fielded a football team every season since its inaugural season in 1913. PC has amassed 504 victories in the program's extensive history.
• The Blue Hose will play a six game PFL schedule in the spring of 2021. PC will not be eligible for the PFL Championship this spring due to still being considered an FCS independent team.
• PC has managed 52 winning seasons throughout its history with the last coming in 2014.
• Prior to turning Division I in 2007, PC was a member of the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) for 32 seasons from 1975 to 2006.
 
Campbell Looks To Rewrite History Books
• Senior Linebacker Colby Campbell with one more sack can take the program-record for sacks in a Blue Hose D1 career. He enters 2020 with 13.0 sacks and Brian Davis holds the D1 program record with 13.0 sacks.
• Campbell ranks second in the D1 program record book with 323 tackles. Donelle Williams holds the D1 program record with 402 stops.
• He also ranks fourth in solo stops (167) and second in assisted tackles (156).
