Men’s Soccer Readies for Opening Match Against Eagles

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College men's soccer team will open their season as they travel to Statesboro, Georgia, to take on Georgia Southern on Thursday, August 26 at 7pm.

Scouting the Eagles | Series History
Thursday's match will be the 8th meeting between the Blue Hose and Eagles since Presbyterian transitioned to Division I, in a series that dates back to 1986. PC won the first ever meeting between the school back in 1986, but have struggled in the past decade going 2-4-1. The Eagles played two pre-season exhibitions, defeating Winthrop and North Georgia, both by a 2-1 score.
 
John Murphy is in his 5th season at the helm of Georgia Southern with a record of 31-32-9.
 
Last Time Out
The Blue Hose played in three pre-season exhibition matches, winning one and dropping two. They won 2-0 over College of Charleston before falling to Georgia State and Lander by 2-1 scorelines.
 
Welcome Back!
PC returns 25 members from last year's squad that went 4-4-2 overall and 2-4-2 in conference play. Notable returnees include last season's leading scorer Mamadu Bah, who had four goals in the spring season. Also returning are redshirt-junior Cesar Sancho and sophomore Nokkvi Nokkvason who will play as Presbyterian's captains.
 
New Kids on the Pitch
Presbyterian welcomes 8 new faces to this season's roster, six of which are transfers. Nile Nguidjol, Ndrin Maloku, Niklas Hoener, Juan Alonso Munoz, Shae Wirt, and Ben Kaindu make up the list that have come over from other schools, while Alex Guzman and Gabriel Prokes are true freshmen.
 
Big South Preseason Poll
The Blue Hose were selected to finish sixth in the preseason poll after posting an overall record of 4-4-2 a season ago.
 
Up Next
The Blue Hose will return to the friendly confines of Martin Stadium for their home opener and celebrate senior day when they take on North Greenville on Monday, August 30 at 7pm.
