How it Happened
- Presbyterian jumped out to an early 4-1 lead thanks to good serving from
Rylee Moorhead. PC then opened the lead to 13-6 before Hampton had a 3-0 run. The Blue Hose answered with a 4-0 run of their own, and the teams went back-and-forth until PC won the set, 25-19.
- PC had an early 4-0 run in set two to go up 6-2. The squads traded points until the Pirates brought it to within one, 11-10. It was tightly contested after that as both teams had leads throughout the set, and finally Presbyterian scored two at the end to win it, 25-22.
- After Hampton scored the first two points, PC ran off five straight to take a 5-2 advantage. The lead would hold until the Pirates tied it at 12 and then took the lead, 13-12. HU held the lead until a 7-0 run late in the set to even it up, 23-23. Going into extra points, Hampton would fight back and take set three, 28-26.
- Set four had multiple ties and lead changes as neither team wanted to give the other an edge. Tied at 14, 17, 18, and 20, something had to give. Hampton went up 22-20, but PC went on a 4-0 run to come back to win the set 26-24, and the match 3-1.
Coach Burgess' Thoughts:
- "It was a good game, we had to battle and stay mentally tough throughout because Hampton gave us some trouble at points. They (Hampton) were in system so it made it tough on us on defense, but we handled it well and pushed back. I think we made some adjustments late and had some important serves that gave us the extra boost we needed to take it home."
