Women’s Soccer Unable to Pounce on Wildcats

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's soccer team played a hard-fought match against the Davidson Wildcats on Sunday afternoon, coming up just short, 2-1. Caroline Dipzinski scored in the 65th minute for the Blue Hose, but it was not enough in the end.

FINAL SCORE: 2-1 Davidson
RECORDS: Presbyterian (1-5), Davidson (3-3)
LOCATION: Martin Stadium

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Davidson controlled the opening kickoff and had a chance in the second minute that was saved by Kelly Hall, getting her first collegiate start. Davidson had a second chance from a corner with an attacker getting their head to it, but Hall came across the net to make a comfortable save. Caroline Dipzinski had the first shot for Presbyterian as her one-hopper was saved. After the Wildcats opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, Kori Lawrence had a shot from 25 yards out, but it rolled into the keeper's arms. Hall made another save before Caitlin Murphy had an attempt that was caught just below the crossbar. An unfortunate deflection late in the half saw the Wildcats take a 2-0 lead into halftime.

Presbyterian tried to play from the back, but a turnover allowed Davidson an opportunity. A cross from the Wildcats' winger found a leg, but Megan Serrano stuck her leg out and made a great save to prevent any further damage. The Blue Hose answered with a goal in the 65th minute as Dipzinski picked up a loose ball just on the edge of the box and took her left foot and smashed it into the top right corner, making it 2-1. The Blue Hose continued to pressure the Davidson defense as they searched for the equalizer. With a few corners and throw-ins deep inside Davidson territory, Presbyterian did everything they could to get the tying goal late in the match, but time ran out on them as they fell, 2-1.

UP NEXT:
The Blue Hose will have a few days off before heading to Athens to take on SEC foe Georgia. Kickoff will be at 7pm.
