GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Presbyterian Blue Hose (8-8, Big South: 0-1) dropped their Big South Conference opener, 65-57, on the road at the North Carolina A&T Aggies (6-9, Big South: 1-0).
Winston Hill led the Blue Hose with 19 points while shooting 7-for-10 from the field. Hill recorded six rebounds.
Trevon Reddish-Rhone scored 10 points, grabbed six rebounds, and dished out five assists.
Kobe Stewart and
Rayshon Harrison scored eight points apiece. Stewart grabbed seven rebounds. Harrison corralled six rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF – The Blue Hose started the game on a 10-0 run behind the scoring of Stewart, who scored five of those 10 points, Hill and
Brandon Younger also scored during the early scoring run. North Carolina A&T answered Presbyterian's run with a 16-0 run taking a 16-10 lead at 11:14 on the clock. Presbyterian's Stewart ended the Aggies' run with his second three of the half. The teams exchanged baskets for the next six minutes until Presbyterian behind baskets by Harrison and Reddish-Rhone scored four straight points regaining the lead 23-22 with 3:24 on the clock. Owen McCormack knocked down a three from the wing giving the Blue Hose a 29-26 lead with one minute left in the half. North Carolina A&T connected on three free throws over the final minute tying the score at 29 at halftime.
SECOND HALF – Two free throws by Harrison gave the Blue Hose a 31-29 lead early in the second half. The lead exchanged hands a couple of times over the next minute. With 17:07 on the clock, a dunk by Hill gave the Blue Hose a 35-34 lead which was their final lead of the game. North Carolina A&T scored nine of the next 10 points taking a 43-36 lead with 13:13 on the clock. When Reddish-Rhone scored with 3:32 on the clock, the Blue Hose cut the Aggies lead to 53-49. North Carolina A&T scored, pushing their lead to six points. With 2:421 on the clock, Hill scored inside, cutting the Aggies lead back to four points, 55-51, which would be as close as Presbyterian would get the rest of the game.
