Blue Hose Fall to Panthers in Four Sets

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Presbyterian College volleyball team suffered a four-set defeat against High Point (14-25, 9-25, 25-15, 12-25) on Friday night at the Millis Center. Rylee Moorhead led the Blue Hose with 11 kills and added six digs, while Anna Baranski added her seventh double-double of the season with 18 assists and 13 digs.

How it Happened

 - High Point jumped out to an early 8-1 advantage in set one forcing an early timeout from the Blue Hose. The Panthers were able to keep the margin throughout the midpoint of the set as the two teams traded points with the hosts keeping a five-point lead before the Panthers pushed to 18-11 leading to a second timeout from PC. HPU closed on a 7-3 run to take the opening set 25-14.
- High Point kept the momentum up in set two as the hosts jumped to a 12-3 lead which included six of the first seven points leading to a Blue Hose timeout. The Panthers continued to keep the pressure on the Blue Hose as the hosts grabbed the set victory to get a 2-0 lead in the match. 
- The Blue Hose flipped the script early in set three with four straight points to get the -early advantage on HPU. HPU and PC went back and forth with the Panthers cutting the lead to a single point multiple times only to be answered by a Blue Hose burst. Leading 10-8, the Blue Hose pushed a 5-2 run to take a 15-10 lead to the media break. The Blue Hose continued to pressure the hosts as the guests closed on a 10-5 run to take set three 25-15 and force a fourth set on Friday.
- The Panthers jumped out to an early advantage in set four with seven of the first nine points to get the early lead and force PC to take a timeout. The hosts kept the pressure up on the Blue Hose with a 7-4 run to take a 14-6 lead as Presbyterian called its second timeout of the set. The Panthers continued to keep their advantage throughout the remainder of the set en route to a 3-1 victory on Friday as they took the fourth set by the score of 25-14. 
 
Notables
 - Moorhead tallied her 10th match of the 2022 season with 10+ kills as the Blue Hose sophomore totaled 11 kills and six digs on Friday. She also added a pair of blocks and an assist to her stat line.
- In Big South matches, Moorhead has recorded a team-high 92 kills (2.71/set) to lead the Blue Hose.
- Baranski picked up her third double-double of the conference season and seventh overall with a team-high 18 assists and a team-best 13 digs.
- Anna Hewitt added 10 digs and five assists for the Blue Hose. Hewitt has tallied 978 digs in her collegiate career with PC and is 22 digs away from becoming the sixth player in PC's DI era to eclipse 1,000 digs.
