Men’s Soccer Hosts UNC Asheville on Wednesday

The Presbyterian College Blue Hose men's soccer team returns to Martin Stadium after nearly a month of road games to play the UNC Asheville Bulldogs on Wednesday, October 5 at 7 p.m.

  • Prior to the game, the Presbyterian women's soccer coaching staff will conduct a clinic for the Scotty's Kids Club members. 
  • The first 25 PC students get a free PC cup.
  • At halftime, fans will have a chance to score a goal on women's basketball coach Alaura Sharp and professors Dr. Shull and Dr. Campbell. 

Last Time Out
Presbyterian posted a 1-0 road shutout victory over Jacksonville last Tuesday, September 27. Lorenzo Nagy scored the game-winning goal off an assist from Nile Nguidjol. In the shutout, Presbyterian limited Jacksonville to three shots on goal.

Blue Hose Stats
  • Nagy, who has scored a team-leading four game-winning goals, and Gerard Lopez, who has two game-winning goals, are tied for the team lead with four goals apiece. Chase Kennedy is third on the team with two goals. The Blue Hose have a balanced offensive attack with ten different players scoring goals this season. The Blue Hose lead the Big South Conference in goals per game at 2.125 (17 goals).
  • The Blue Hose defense behind the play of goalkeeper Leo Stritter and defenders Jordan Johnson, Cheikh Atamao, Vidar Ragnarsson, Connor Hudson, Uriel Ferguson, Ryan Galloway, and Jose Lado has recorded five shutouts while posting a Big South Conference leading 0.88 goals against average.

Big South Weekly Award
  • Two weeks ago, Ragnarsson was named Big South Conference Freshman of the Week (September 19). Ragnarsson was the sixth different player in the program's history to claim Big South Player of the Week honors. He also was named to College Soccer News National Team of the Week.
  • Hudson was Big South Defensive Player of the Week (September 12). Hudson is the fifth player in the program's history to garner Big South Defensive Player of the Week honors.
  • While, Stritter was named Big South Conference Freshman of the Week for two straight weeks (September 6, September 12). He is the first player in the program's history to capture multiple Big South Freshman of the Week honors.
 
Presbyterian-UNC Asheville Series
  • Wednesday's game will be the 15th meeting between Presbyterian and UNC Asheville, who leads the all-time series, 8-4-2. The Blue Hose have won the last two games between the two teams.
  • Presbyterian behind goals from Ndrin Maloku and Nguidjol defeated UNC Asheville, 2-1, on the road in their previous contest, October 16, 2021.
  • Presbyterian tallied a 3-2 win over UNC Asheville in their last game at Martin Stadium, April 3, 2021. Luke Gladden scored the game-winning goal in Presbyterian's win.
 
 Scouting UNC Asheville
  • The Bulldogs beat Georgia Southern, 5-3, at home earlier this season. UNC Asheville has posted 2-2 ties against Wofford and Gardner-Webb this season. UNC Asheville enters the game after a 3-0 loss on the road at College of Charleston on September 27.
  • UNC Asheville has been outscored 29-13 this season.
  • Sam Pitts-Eckersall leads the Bulldogs with four goals. Sam Presser is second on the team with three goals while dishing out a team-high-tying two assists.
  • Mick Giordano, who is a former standout player at UNC Asheville, is in his third season as the Bulldogs' head coach.
