Blue Hose Finish Regular Season Against Winthrop at Martin Stadium

The Presbyterian College Blue Hose men's soccer team finishes the regular season against the Winthrop Eagles in Martin Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The Blue Hose lost to Big South Conference leading Campbell, 3-0, on the road this past Saturday night.

Nacho Gallego, Lorenzo Nagy, who has scored a team-leading four game-winning goals, and Gerard Lopez, who has scored two game-winning goals, are tied for the team lead with four goals apiece. Nile Nguidjol, Vidar Ragnarsson, and Chase Kennedy are tied for fourth on the team with two goals apiece. The Blue Hose have a balanced offensive attack with 12 different players scoring goals this season. Nguidjol (three assists), David Citron (two assists), Carson Griffith (two assists), and Jordan Johnson (two assists) have dished out multiple assists this season. The Blue Hose are third in the Big South Conference and 73rd in the nation in scoring offense averaging 1.60 goals per game.

The Blue Hose defense behind the play of goalkeepers Leo Stritter and James Dee and defenders Ragnarsson, Johnson, Cheikh Atamao, Connor Hudson, Uriel Ferguson, Ryan Galloway, Jose Lado, and Jamari Busby has recorded seven shutouts while posting a 1.27 goals against average. Presbyterian ranks fourth in the Big South Conference in goals against average.

Big South Conference Tournament
For the Blue Hose to earn a spot in the four-team Big South Conference Tournament, Presbyterian needs to beat Winthrop and have Gardner-Webb lose to Campbell. Both games are played on Wednesday, November 2.

Big South Weekly Award
Last week, Gallego claimed Big South Offensive Player of the Week honors becoming the second player in the program's history to be named Big South Offensive Player of the Week. 

Last week, Stritter was named Big South Conference Freshman of the Week for the third time this season (September 6, September 12, and October 24). He is the first player in the program's history to capture multiple Big South Freshman of the Week honors.

Earlier this season, Ragnarsson was named Big South Conference Freshman of the Week (September 19). Ragnarsson was the sixth different player in the program's history to claim Big South Player of the Week honors. He also was named to College Soccer News National Team of the Week.

Hudson was Big South Defensive Player of the Week (September 12). Hudson is the fifth player in the program's history to garner Big South Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Presbyterian-Winthrop Series
Wednesday's game is the 18th all-time meeting between Presbyterian and Winthrop, who leads the all-time series 11-4-2. In the last meeting, Winthrop defeated Presbyterian, 3-0, at home in the quarterfinals of the  Big South Tournament on November 7, 2021. The two teams tied, 1-1, in double overtime in their previous meeting at Martin Stadium on April 8, 2021.
 
Scouting Winthrop
The Eagles have wins over the College of Charleston, Longwood, and UNC Asheville this season. Winthrop has been outscored by their opponents, 47-13, this season. Aiden Williams, Nick Guido, and Bryan Jimenez-Pearce lead Winthrop with two goals apiece. Nine players have scored a goal this season for Winthrop.
