CHARLESTON, S.C. – Punching their ticket to the multi-team Citadel Open at McAlister Field House for the third time in the brief four-year history of the program, the Presbyterian College men's wrestling squad saw 17 competitors hit the mat at the neutral in-state site on Sunday, with many productive efforts on display. None of the Blue Hose's individual exploits were more fruitful than sophomore
Malcolm Wiley (197), who continued his quick ascension up the ranks of the roster with a 1
st-place championship to close PC's busy weekend.
Notables
- Putting together 16 victories as a unit while representing all 10 weight classes in the event, Presbyterian exits their second tournament of the season's opening week with a couple of top-six developments headlined by Wiley's title. A true freshman who has impressed in equal fashion at last Sunday's Princeton Open and this afternoon's Bulldog-hosted fare,
Ryan Luna pulled down his second straight 6
th-place finish in the 133-lb. group.
- While in New Jersey seven days prior, Wiley gained a head of steam after an opening-match setback to claim four wins in a row that allowed the second-year grappler a 5
th-place standing. Today, the sophomore again reached a quartet of W's (with no losses to speak of on this occasion), defeating a pair of opponents from American University and two others from Chattanooga and UNC-Pembroke to grab the 197-lb. prize. Having his hand raised by decision in all four bouts (toppling his final two challengers by a combined 25-0 clip), the Tyrone, Ga. native moved to a 2022 fall record of 8-2 after three events, indicating a promising future for the underclassman.
- Rebounding from an opening-round fall to win three of his final four appearances in the consolation bracket, Luna again showed flashes of the potential to his abilities with a second-straight 6
th-place mark. The collegiate rookie grasped his sixth victory of a blossoming career in the 133-lb. unit, publishing his third W of the day over The Citadel's own Brayton Killiri by a 7-2 decision.

UP NEXT:
With two tourneys under their belt, the Blue Hose will now turn their attention to a Saturday date with Queens in head-to-head format on Nov. 19 from Charlotte, North Carolina. In a similar background to PC's other dual match versus Michigan State, next Saturday's series will denote the first ever between the two programs.
It hasn't been a strong start to the year for the Royals, who have come up empty-handed in four November duals at the hands of The Citadel, George Mason, Williams College, and Millersville yesterday in Fairfax, Virginia. In between their one-on-one meetings, Queens competed at the Black Knight Scramble in West Point, N.Y. back on Nov. 6.
Presbyterian will get it started against the Royals next weekend at 3:00 p.m.
