Blue Hose Play Campbell in Big South Tournament Semifinals

The Presbyterian College Blue Hose men's soccer team travels to North Carolina to play the Campbell Camels in the semifinals of the Big South Conference Tournament on Sunday evening.

Last Time Out
Behind a strong defensive performance and goals by Nile Nguidjol and Nacho Gallego, the Blue Hose defeated the Winthrop Eagles, 2-0, at Martin Stadium in their final regular season game. With the win, Presbyterian clinched a berth in the four-team Big South Conference Tournament.

All-Big South Conference Honors
Junior midfielder Lorenzo Nagy was named First Team All-Big South. Senior forward Nacho Gallego and junior midfielder Carson Griffith were both Second Team All-Big South selections. Sophomore forward Nile Nguidjol was named Honorable Mention All-Big South. Freshman goalkeeper Leo Stritter garnered Big South All-Freshman team honors. Junior midfielder Niklas Hoener was named to the Big South All-Academic team.

Big South Conference Tournament
Presbyterian is making its seventh appearance in the Big South Tournament. The Blue Hose are the fourth seed. This is the second-highest seed that the Blue Hose have had in the program's Big South Conference Tournament history, Presbyterian was the third seed in 2018. In 2017, Presbyterian won the Big South Conference Tournament and in 2018 the Blue Hose lost in the Championship game of the Tournament. In the Big South Conference Tournament, the Blue Hose have a 5-4-3 record.

Gallego leads the team with five goals. Nagy, who has scored a team-leading four game-winning goals, and Gerard Lopez, who has scored two game-winning goals, are tied for the second on the team with four goals apiece. Nguidjol is fourth on the team with three goals. Vidar Ragnarsson, and Chase Kennedy are tied for fifth on the team with two goals apiece. The Blue Hose have a balanced offensive attack with 12 different players scoring goals this season. Nguidjol (three assists), Griffith (two assists), Hoener (two assists), David Citron (two assists), and Jordan Johnson (two assists) have dished out multiple assists this season. The Blue Hose are fourth in the Big South Conference and 72nd in the nation in scoring offense averaging 1.67 goals per game.

The Blue Hose defense behind the play of goalkeepers Stritter and James Dee and defenders Ragnarsson, Johnson, Cheikh Atamao, Connor Hudson, Uriel Ferguson, Ryan Galloway, Jose Lado, and Jamari Busby has recorded eight shutouts while posting a 1.19 goals against average. Presbyterian ranks third in the Big South Conference and 75th in the nation in goals against average.

Big South Weekly Award
Last week, Gallego claimed Big South Offensive Player of the Week honors becoming the second player in the program's history to be named Big South Offensive Player of the Week. 

Last week, Stritter was named Big South Conference Freshman of the Week for the third time this season (September 6, September 12, and October 24). He is the first player in the program's history to capture multiple Big South Freshman of the Week honors.

Earlier this season, Ragnarsson was named Big South Conference Freshman of the Week (September 19). Ragnarsson was the sixth different player in the program's history to claim Big South Player of the Week honors. He also was named to College Soccer News National Team of the Week.

Hudson was Big South Defensive Player of the Week (September 12). Hudson is the fifth player in the program's history to garner Big South Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Presbyterian-Campbell Series
Sunday's game will be the 16th meeting between Presbyterian and Campbell, who leads the all-time series 10-5. In their most recent meeting, Campbell defeated Presbyterian, 3-0, at home last Saturday.
 
Scouting Campbell
Nine Campbell players earned All-Big South Conference honors. Campbell captured the Big South regular-season title for the third time in the last four years. The Camels enter Sunday's game ranked 30th in the nation in scoring offense, averaging 2.06 goals per game, and 28th in goals allowed with 0.89 goals against average.
