Battle Leads PC in Four-Set Victory over Asheville

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Presbyterian College volleyball team used strong offensive performances from junior Kasey Battle and sophomore Rylee Moorhead defeated UNC Asheville 3-1 (25-17, 25-17, 22-25, 25-14) at Justice Center on Saturday afternoon. Battle led the offense with 15 kills and Moorhead tallied 12 kills and five digs along with a pair of blocks. Freshman Anna Baranski led the way with 39 assists and 12 digs.

How it Happened
- The two teams traded points in the early going before a 6-2 run gave the Blue Hose a 9-5 lead in set one and forced the hosts to an early timeout.  The Bulldogs battled back in the set to a 15-12 deficit before the Blue Hose scored five of the next eight points to make it 20-15 and force UNC Asheville to use a second timeout. PC finished the set on a 5-2 burst to take it 25-17. In the set, PC totaled 20 kills and hit .486 to jump out to the early advantage.
- The Bulldogs and Blue Hose battled tight in the set before a 5-2 burst gave PC a 10-7 lead and forced Asheville to a timeout. The Bulldogs cut it to a 15-10 deficit in the second set before four of the next six points were scored by PC to push it back to a 19-12 lead and force the hosts to call timeout. Asheville cut the margin to five, 22-17 before three straight from PC gave them a 25-17 set two victory.
- UNC Asheville came out of the gates quickly in the third set with six of the first eight points before the Blue Hose evened it up at nine with a 7-3 run of its own. The two teams traded runs over middle portion of Saturday's third set before a 4-1 burst gave PC the 19-17 lead and led to a Bulldogs timeout. Out of the timeout, Asheville quickly evened it at 20 before a 5-2 run down the stretch gave the Bulldogs set three at 25-22.
- PC came out in set four fast with six of the first seven points to force a Bulldog timeout. The Blue Hose continued to push offensively as they extended it to an 11-4 lead forcing the hosts to call their second timeout. Asheville battled back cutting the margin to five, 15-10 which forced a PC timeout. PC closed on a 10-4 run to take the final set 25-14 and win the match on Saturday in four.

Notables
- Battle led the Blue Hose with 15 kills while hitting a crisp .406 in the match. She also added two blocks and two digs.
- Moorhead tallied 12 kills, five digs, two blocks and a pair of aces. She's now had 10+ kills in 11 league matches including each of the last seven to pace the Blue Hose offensive attack. 
- Freshman Elyse Hutchinson totaled seven kills, five digs and four blocks in the contest.
- Freshman Anna Baranski tallied a team-high 39 assists and 12 digs for her ninth double-double of the season. She's averaging 6.83 assists/set throughout league play for PC to lead the offensive attack.
- Baranski also added four kills on nine swings along with three blocks.
- Redshirt junior Abby Sparkman tied her career-high in digs with a team-high 14 on the defensive end. Sparkman also added and ace and a kill along with an assist.
- Junior Hailey Grocholski tallied seven kills on 16 swings as she hit .438. The Blue Hose middle blocker added a team-high four aces to go along with five blocks.
- PC improved to 6-1 on the season when totaling 10+ aces following the Blue Hose 11 aces on Saturday.
