Women's Basketball Tips Off 2022-23 Season on Monday Night

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's basketball team begins the 2022-23 season on Monday night as the Blue Hose welcome in Carolina University for a 5 p.m. tip against the Bruins on ESPN+. The game will be the front end of a doubleheader as the men's team battles Carolina University in the second game on Monday.

Opening Tip
- Presbyterian College begins the 2022-23 season on Monday with Carolina University coming to Clinton for the first of three straight at home to kick the season off. In PC's last on-court action during the 2021-22 season, The Presbyterian College women's basketball team fought back from a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to force overtime but top-seeded Campbell took down the Blue Hose 59-56 in the Big South Quarterfinal on Thursday afternoon at Bojangles Coliseum. Fifth-Year senior Jade Compton led the Blue Hose with 19 points as sophomore Maleia Bracone added 16.
 
Opening Games
- The Blue Hose are 21-24 all-time in season openers, but just 2-13 since moving to Division I for the 2007-08 campaign. This season marks the first time that PC has faced Carolina University in the Blue Hose DI history. The Blue Hose defeated Clemson to begin the 2012-13 season, which kicked off a DI era-best 19-win campaign for PC. Presbyterian's other season-opening victory since moving to Division I came to open  the 2019-20 season, when it took down another in-state opponent, South Carolina State, 70-49 in Orangeburg. Monday's game marks just the second time in the DI era that PC begins it's season at home with the last coming in 2008-09.

- PC is scheduled to play 29 contests under the directon of fifth year head coach Alaura Sharp during the 2022-23 season including 18 league games which begin on December 29th at Campbell. The Blue Hose are slated to make trips to St. Thomas, Minnesota, Morehead State, UNCG, Florida and Florida State in non-conference play while welcoming Carolina University, Furman, WCU, Jacksonville and Bluefield to Clinton. Presbyterian will play nine home-homes with the league in 2022 beginning with Campbell on Dec. 29.
 
Scouting the Bruins
Carolina University has dropped both of its contests in 2022 with the most recent coming against Alice Lloyd on Saturday by the score of 52-39. The Bruins began the 2022-23 season with a six-point defeat against Montreat. Kevanika Brown leads the Bruins averaging 11 ppg while Denasia Mitchell is averaging 10.5 ppg on the season. Genasia Everett leads the way for Carolina University with 10.5 rebounds/game. Mitchell leads the way with 3.5 assists/game while also adding 3.5 steals/game.
 
New Faces Enter the Equation
The Blue Hose enter the 2022-23 season with a lot of fresh faces in 2022 as 11 new players join the squad. The Blue Hose freshman class includes guards Aubrie Kierscht (Salina, Kan.) , Ashley Carrillo (Liberal, Kan.) , Tilda Sjokvist (Huskvarna, Sweden) , Natalie Herrin (Patterson, Ga.) and forward Dennaye Hinds (Bridgeport, Conn.). In addition to the five freshman, PC also added a host of upperclassmen in 2022 to round out the roster. Coach Sharp welcomes Christina Kline (La Salle), Mara Neira (Eastern Wyoming), Sonia Sato (McCook CC), Dagne Apsite (UTEP), Nuria Cunill (Eastern Washington) and Laila Grant (Vincennes).
 
Sharp Welcomes Lofton & McKee to Staff
Presbyterian College and head women's basketball coach Alaura Sharp have announced the addition of a pair of members to the staff. Tatyana Lofton joins the women's basketball program as an assistant coach, while LaRomeo McKee joins the Blue Hose as the program's director of basketball operations. Lofton joins the Blue Hose staff after serving as a graduate assistant manager at the University of Alabama. She helped the Crimson Tide's director of basketball operations oversee the team's daily activities. McKee joins the Blue Hose women's basketball staff after serving as a graduate assistant for the University of Mobile women's basketball team. McKee contributed to the player's development.
 
Sharp Adds Taylor & Johnson to Staff
Presbyterian College and head women's basketball coach Alaura Sharp announced the additions of a pair of coaches to her staff which finalizes the coaching staff for the upcoming season. Sharp has added Brooklyn Taylor and Bubby Johnson to the staff on Wednesday.  Taylor joins the Blue Hose after spending last year on the staff at her alma mater of St. Francis University. She spent last season primarily working with the post players which included Jada Dapaa who led the Northeast Conference in rebounding and was #4 rebounder in the nation as she averaged 12.3 RPG. Johnson joins the Blue Hose staff after spending the past two seasons as assistant coach at the University of Charleston. During his time at Charleston the program earned a pair of conference championships, a regular season title along with an NCAA Atlantic Regional championship
