Kibby Named FCS National Freshman of the Week

CLINTON, S.C. – Fresh off one of the most exceptional performances by a first-year player in the 15-year history of the Presbyterian College football program's NCAA Division I escapades, wideout Dominic Kibby was christened the FedEx Ground FCS National Freshman of the Week on Monday afternoon.

In the 2022 home finale for the Blue Hose last Saturday, Kibby erupted against the Dayton Flyers for another example of one of the finest seasons by a collegiate rookie to don the blue and white on the offensive side of the ball, finishing the day with seven catches for a whopping 212 yards and three touchdowns. Over 10 appearances in his rookie campaign, the freshman has hauled in 34 receptions for a total of 692 yards and six trips to the end zone, all figures that lead the Presbyterian wideout group.

Although the Blue Hose were bested by Dayton two days ago, the improvement on both sides of the ball continues to grow more noticeably for first-year head coach Steve Englehart's crew, with Kibby one of the easiest illustrations to point out from afar. Saturday's showing was three yards away from the second-highest receiving output in a single game across PC's D-I history, only 27 yards shy of matching teammate Jalen Jones' record-setting 239-yard performance last season at Valparaiso.

The first time since that aforementioned bout with the Beacons in Indianapolis that a Blue Hose wideout has tallied a trio of TD's in a single outing, Kibby's 212-yard explosion sets a new best for Presbyterian freshmen since joining the D-I class in 2007, joining eight former members of the program to have gathered three scores in a single game over that time period.

A native of Catonsville, Maryland, Kibby's three touchdown grabs added up for 169 yards in the PFL matchup with the Flyers, going for a 75-yarder on the team's first offensive play from scrimmage, a 63-yard connection just before the end of the opening half, and another 31-yard burst with 13:16 remaining in the contest.

Averaging an absurd 30 yards per catch over the weekend, Kibby's loaded performance puts him in a class of only two receivers in the PFL to have notched a 200-yard effort this fall, the seventh-highest output in one meeting in all of Football Championship Subdivision action.

Beating out six other nominees for the National Freshman of the Week honor, Kibby has registered four catches or more against five separate opponents, encompassing triple digits in receiving yards on three different dates. The rookie has since added kickoff return duties to his repertoire in the latter stages of the semester, amassing an all-purpose yardage collection of 831 yards to pace the Blue Hose.

Coach Englehart's squad is currently in the midst of their BYE week following the competitive loss to Dayton, getting an extra seven days of preparation for the '22 finale against Stetson on the road in DeLand, Florida. Kickoff with the Hatters is slated for 1:00 p.m. on Nov. 19 as PC hopes to continue an impressive resume in the series with nine victories in 12 attempts.
