Volleyball Battles CSU & Winthrop in Final Matches of Regular Season

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College volleyball team closes out the 2022 regular season beginning on Thursday with a road trip to CSU with first serve set for 6 p.m… PC returns home on Saturday for a senior day tilt with Winthrop at 2 p.m… Both matches will be shown on ESPN+. Prior to first serve on Saturday, the Blue Hose will honor its senior class of Abby Sparkman, Cydni Miller and Paige Cairns.

Last Time Out...
The Presbyterian College volleyball team used strong offensive performances from junior Kasey Battle and sophomore Rylee Moorhead defeated UNC Asheville 3-1 (25-17, 25-17, 22-25, 25-14) at Justice Center on Saturday afternoon. Battle led the offense with 15 kills and Moorhead tallied 12 kills and five digs along with a pair of blocks. Freshman Anna Baranski led the way with 39 assists and 12 digs.

Head to Head...
PC holds a 19-14 advantage over Charleston Southern with the Bucs taking the most recent match in four sets in Clinton earlier this year. Winthrop holds a 29-9 lead over the Blue Hose in the all-time DI series as the Eagles swept the matchup in Rock Hill last month. The Blue Hose will look for their first win against the Eagles since November 2018 when PC took its home finale from the Eagles in five sets...

Scouting the Bucs..
Charleston Southern sits at 14-14 along with a 7-7 record in Big South play following a pair of four-set wins against UNC Asheville and USC Upstate last time out. CSU is led offensively by Peyton Thompson who has totaled 408 kills on the season with Skylar Yates adding 267 and Indigo Young sits with 233. Emilee Karelse has totaled a team-high 740 assists. Yates leads the Bucs with 38 aces with Thompson sitting at 35. Angelika Rusin leads CSU on the defensive side with 489 digs with Yates adding 265. Emily Struckmeyer leads CSU with 78 blocks and Young has added 66.

Scouting the Eagles...
Winthrop begins the final weekend of the regular season at 15-10 with an 11-3 mark in the league as the Eagles head to CSU on Friday before visiting Clinton on Saturday afternoon. Winthrop defeated Upstate and Gardner-Webb in straight sets last time out. The Eagles offense is led by Alayna Jansky with 314 kills with Avery Jolley adding 202 on the season. Isabella Murray leads the Eagles with 920 assists. Madison Gorniak leads the defensive end for Winthrop with 329 digs. Alicia Roberts has a team-high 98 blocks.

Moorhead Leading the Offense in League..
The Blue Hose sophomore currently leads the team with 159 kills averaging three kills per set throughout the 14 Big South matches for PC. Moorhead has tallied 10+ kills in 11 league matches including each of the last seven contests for the Blue Hose. She's also added 95 digs, 15 blocks and 17 aces in conference play.

Hewitt Eclipses 1,000 Digs..
Junior Anna Hewitt became the sixth player in the Blue Hose DI era to eclipse 1,000 digs on Saturday against USC Upstate as the PC libero tallied a team-high 28 digs in the four-set win over the Spartans. She became the first Blue Hose since Erin Eulitz in 2019 to surpass 1,000 digs in their time with Presbyterian.

Rylee Moorhead sits sixth in the league with 268 kills among qualified offensive threats for the Big South... Hailey Grocholski sits fifth in the conference with a .296 hitting percentage... Moorhead is tied for second in the league with 38 aces, while Anna Hewitt and Abby Sparkman are tied for seventh with 28 service aces apiece... Hewitt is ninth in the league with 305 digs...
