CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College men's wrestling team fell by a single point on Friday night against Bellarmine, spoiling the Blue Hose senior night by a 19-18 score.
Bellarmine started the match out with a decision win at 125lbs, but Presbyterian jumped out in front as they received six points on a forfeit win given to
Dominic Chavez. The Knights would tie the match and then take the lead with back-to-back wins before
Reid Stewart picked up an 8-4 decision win to bring PC back within a point, 10-9. Another decision loss and a pin loss saw Bellarmine move out to a 19-9 advantage.
Presbyterian had three matches left to try and claw their way back into the match and find themselves a win. Freshman
David Bertrand was reliable as can be as he won a 5-3 decision to give the Blue Hose three more points.
Aiden Jean had the next opportunity at 197lbs as he battled his way to an 8-5 decision win to bring the match to 19-15 and gave his heavyweight teammate
Will Pontoon a chance to complete the comeback. Pontoon went toe-to-toe with his HWT counterpart, but he wasn't able to scrap a couple extra points as a 3-1 decision win was not enough and Presbyterian fell 19-18.
