BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Presbyterian College men's wrestling team was able to pick up two victories over the Bulldogs on Friday evening, but it wasn't enough as the Blue Hose fell by a final score of 28-7.
Presbyterian opened the match with a big 16-2 major decision win from
Jacob Brasseur. Brasseur scored a takedown early in the bout and two near falls late in the second and third period to put PC ahead. The lead only lasted for a moment as Gardner-Webb won the next three matches to go up 10-4.
Zachary Phillips brought the score closer as he earned a 7-3 decision win. A takedown in the first period and a pair in the third saw the junior from Baltimore add to PC's total.
Unfortunately, that would be all the scoring the Blue Hose could muster, but three of the final five matches were given by decision which shows Presbyterian weren't giving up.
Mason Watkins scored seven points in his bout which is usually enough, but he was outdone by his opponent, 11-7.
David Bertrand fell to a 3-1 decision in a very tightly contested matchup in which both competitors jostled for positioning the entire match. Finally at heavyweight,
Will Pontoon dropped a 6-0 decision that ended the match.
