CLINTON, S.C.- The Presbyterian College softball team opened the PC Invitational on Friday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep over North Carolina Central.
Jenna Greene pitched a no-hitter in game one with her only blemish coming by a walk in the 3
rd inning, and
Morgan Hess came on in relief of
Haley Haselden to shut down the Eagles in game two.
Game 1
After a 1-2-3 inning by Greene in the top half, PC lit up the scoreboard with a four spot in the bottom half.
Lath Freeman knocked in
Jersey Silver to open the scoring and
Jaiden Tweed cleared the bases with a 3-run double. Presbyterian tacked on one in the second and blew open the score in the bottom of the third.
Rebecca Clark connected on one and sent it over the fence to being the third inning. After three straight Blue Hose reached base,
Kaitlyn Tucker was able to bat home a run.
Jillian Hewes drew a walk that plated another, and
Morgan Hess scored all four with a grand slam over the left field fence. PC added the final two runs of the game on back-to-back singles by Tucker and Freeman. Greene finished the game with a strikeout to complete her no-hitter.
Game 2
A scoreless first inning saw the Eagles come to the plate for a second time against PC pitcher
Haley Haselden. A pair of singles put runners in scoring position and NC Central cashed in with a two RBI double to left field. After a walk, Haselden was replaced by
Morgan Hess who gathered the final out of the inning. The Blue Hose struck for six in the bottom of the third. It was a hitting carousel as PC laced four doubles and two singles to send six across the plate. Hess was mowing down hitters as the Blue Hose added more in the bottom half of the fourth. Tucker scored on a wild pitch and Hess helped her cause with an infield single to score
Kara Starnes. With Hess and
Taylor Ward in scoring position, Tweed ripped a ball up the middle to score both and extend the lead to 10-2. Hess would strike out two of the final three batters to end the game.
