CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College Blue Hose (11-15, Big South: 3-8) fell in Big South action on Wednesday night to the High Point Panthers (11-13, Big South: 5-5) by the score of 79-70 inside the Templeton Center. The Blue Hose were led by
Rayshon Harrison who had 24 points, while
Winston Hill chipped in with 17 points and
Trevon Reddish-Rhone added 11 in the defeat.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF – Both teams traded early scores with the Blue Hose jumping out to the 6-5 lead in the first three minutes. High Point used an 8-2 run over the next three minutes to take a 13-8 lead with 14:42 to play in the first half. The Panthers kept the advantage over the Blue Hose with three straight layups over two minutes to take a 19-12 lead with 10:04 in the half. Reddish-Rhone had back-to-back layups to cut the Panthers' advantage to three, 19-16 with 7:21 to play. The guests pushed the lead to 12 with a 13-4 run over the next six minutes and led 32-20 with 1:54 to play in the half. PC inched closer with a mini 5-3 run as the guests took a 35-25 lead to the intermission.
SECOND HALF –PC cut the margin to eight, 41-33 with Harrison scoring all eight of the points in the first three minutes for the Blue Hose. The Panthers pushed it back out with a quick four points in the next minute to make it 45-33 with 17:10 to play in the half. PC used an 8-4 run to cut the deficit down to eight, 49-41 with 14:31 to play in the second half. Over the next four minutes, HPU responded with seven unanswered to extend the lead to 15, 56-41 halfway thru the second half. Presbyterian answered with an 11-3 run over the next four minutes to whittle the Panthers lead to 59-52 with 6:55 to play. The Panthers pushed it back to a 10-point lead with five at the foul line as the scoreline sat at 64-54 with 6:04 to play. The Blue Hose had a quick 4-0 answer before the guests used an 8-2 run over the next three minutes to take a 72-60 lead with 2:11 to go. PC cut the Panthers' lead to seven at 74-67 on the heels of a 7-2 run with 50 seconds to play. The Blue Hose cut into the lead at the foul line but were unable to get it any closer as High Point closed out the win.
NOTES
- Harrison had a team-high 24 points for his 11th 20-point game of the season and third straight contest to hit that mark.
- Hill added his 11th game with double-figure scoring as he chipped in with 17.
- Hill also made a season-high five at the charity stripe on Wednesday night.
- Brandon Younger posted a season-high with seven rebounds including a season-best five on the defensive end.
- Hill added a season-high three steals.
