Late Heroics Push PC Over ETSU

CLINTON, S.C.-  The Presbyterian College softball team continued their win streak, now moving to 10 straight, after a doubleheader win over ETSU. PC shutout ETSU in game one, 5-0, and used a late Jillian Hewes homerun to climb over the Bucs in game two, 4-3.

Game 1
Jenna Greene got the start in the circle for the Blue Hose in game one. She sat down the Bucs with ease in the 1st inning to bring her teammates to bat. After a Jersey Silver infield single and stolen base, Kaitlyn Tucker brought her home on a shot to center. Tucker advanced to third as the ball got by the center fielder, and was eventually brought home by Morgan Hess who punched one through the right side. Greene shut down ETSU in the 2nd and 3rd as PC added more runs. With Tucker getting on to lead off the inning and Lath Freeman shooting a ball to center field, PC had two girls on with no outs. Hewes used a sac fly to score Tucker, and Freeman scored on a Rebecca Clark single which extended the inning. The game was moving along as Greene struck out six of the next nine Buc outs, sending it to the bottom of the 6th. Layna Johnson led it off with a double down the left field line, and Kelby Goodrum knocked her home with a single to right. That would be all PC needed to get the victory in game one as Greene punched out the final batter to clinch the 5-0 win.

Game 2
Morgan Hess received the start in game two putting her perfect 4-0 record on the line. She had a one-two-three first half and struck out two in the second inning. The South Riding, VA native helped her own cause at the plate as she belted one over the left field fence for a leadoff homer. ETSU would answer back in the 4th as a single and a double brought around a Buc to score, tying the game 1-1. With Presbyterian now struggling at the plate the Bucs took advantage scoring two in the 6th to take a 3-1 lead. However, the Blue Hose bats woke up in the bottom half as Tucker and Freeman reached base. With the reigning Big South player of the week at the plate, Hewes launched a ball to deep right center over the wall to give PC the lead. With the top of the 7th getting a little dicey, Hess recorded two strikeouts in the frame to end it and give Presbyterian the sweep.
