KENNESAW, GA- The Presbyterian College women's lacrosse team took an early lead against Kennesaw State, 3-2, but was unable to maintain the lead as the Owls went on an 11-2 run over the 2
nd and 3
rd quarters to an 18-8 final.
Kennesaw State opened the scoring off the opening draw and went up 2-0 early, but Presbyterian came back with three unanswered to take the lead.
Willow Hammond struck first for her 8
th of the season at the 10:38 mark.
Madison Berg tied the game as she got the ball from
Kylie Sullivan and slotted it home. PC took the lead with just over five minutes to go as Sullivan scored another for her 4
th of the season. The Owls retook the lead with two minutes to go in the quarter, but
Abby Edmisten made it 4-4 with 30 seconds left as the 1
st quarter came to a close.
The Blue Hose were able to gain the advantage once again as Hammond scored her second of the game and 9
th of the year. The Owls were able to rattle off three straight before Berg rifled in a goal on a free-position attempt to bring it back to a one-goal game. However, Kennesaw State would score with 10 seconds left to take a two-goal lead into halftime.
Kennesaw State took over in the 3
rd quarter as they scored all seven goals in the quarter to take a 15-6 lead. PC did have six shots in the quarter, but good goaltending prevented them from adding to the six they previously scored in the game. The Owls put up one more in their run before Edmisten shot one past on a free-position. Sullivan was able to record her second of the day as she scored from Edmisten, but the deficit was too much to overcome in the end.
The Blue Hose will begin Big South play on Friday, March 25 as they host Mercer for a 3pm start.
