BUIES CREEK, N.C. - The Presbyterian College softball team were unable to come away with a series clinching win against Campbell on Sunday afternoon as an error in the 5
th inning allowed the Camels to score two runs which would ultimately be the difference in a 3-1 final. PC goes to 20-7 (6-3, Big South), while Campbell moves to 16-11 (5-4, Big South).
Game Breakdown
After a scoreless 1
st inning,
Jillian Hewes led things off in the 2
nd with a solo homerun for the first run of the game.
Jaiden Tweed was able to single later on and steal second, but she would be stranded there as the inning ended.
Jenna Greene had two strikeouts in the bottom half as PC looked to add on in the 3
rd.
Bailey Watkins started things with a single, and
Layna Johnson was able to use her speed to reach first on a bunt single. A sac bunt put Watkins and Johnson in scoring position with one out, but neither
Lath Freeman nor Hewes were able to cash them in. Campbell was able to tie the game in the bottom of the 3
rd as they used some small ball to level the game, 1-1. Both teams had a runner at second in the 4
th, but both defenses did well to get out of the situation. Presbyterian went down in order which allowed Campbell to come to the plate and take the lead. An error on the leadoff batter would be the difference maker as Greene was able to punch out two later on. With the earlier error keeping the inning alive, the Camels took advantage with a two RBI single to take a 3-1 lead. PC looked to mount a comeback in the 7
th as they had the go-ahead run at the plate, but the bid fell short as they dropped the series finale.
