Early Offense Leads Blue Hose in Opener against Bellarmine

CLINTON, S.C. – Behind a four-run second inning, the Presbyterian College baseball team opened its three-game weekend series with a 9-3 victory over Bellarmine at the PC Baseball Complex. Eric Toth led the offense with three hits on Friday night.  Ryan Ouzts also connected on his collegiate homer in the second inning to lead the offense.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blue Hose got the scoring going in the second as they took advantage of a Knights error before Ryan Ouzts connected on a three-run shot to push the PC advantage out to 4-0.
- Bellarmine got on the board in the fourth with back-to-back RBI singles to cut the lead in half at 4-2.
- An RBI groundout from the Knights in the sixth made it a 4-3 game.
- PC answered in the seventh with a run off of a pair of Bellarmine fielding errors before Dalton Reeves doubled down the right field line to make it 6-3.
- The Blue Hose capped the inning with Toth scampering home on a wild pitch to push the lead to 7-3.
- Toth added an RBI single in the eighth and the Blue Hose pushed across the ninth and final run on a wild pitch to give them the 9-3 series opening win.
 
NOTABLES
-  Toth tallied his team-high fourth multi-hit game on Friday with three hits including his third double of the season.
- Ouzts second inning home run was the first of his collegiate career. He also had a career-high with three RBIs in the victory.
- With his ninth inning single, Jay Wetherington extended his hit streak to eight consecutive games.
- Chris Veach and Jack Gorman have reached base safely in all 10 games of the 2022 season.
- Sophomore Charlie McDaniel tossed a season-high seven innings on Friday with four strikeouts as he earned his first victory of the 2022 campaign.
- Luke Matthews tied a season-high with three strikeouts in his 2.0 innings of relief as he allowed only one base hit in the outing.
- Friday also served as the first night game at the PC Baseball Complex as the lights were installed prior to the start of the season.

- The Blue Hose continue their three-game set on Saturday at 3 p.m. with game two of the series before wrapping up the weekend at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
