CLINTON, S.C.- The Presbyterian College softball team had their win streak come to an end on Sunday afternoon as they pushed it to 14 straight after a win over Youngstown St 4-0, but the St. Peter's Peacocks rallied in the 7
th in Presbyterian's second game to end the streak as PC fell 4-2.
Game 1 – Youngstown St.
Morgan Hess opened game one with a 1-2-3 inning and then PC went to work in the bottom half.
Kaitlyn Tucker got on with a single and
Lath Freeman reached first on a walk.
Jillian Hewes would drive in Tucker with a single, and
Rebecca Clark advanced Freeman to home on a single of her own to give PC an early 2-0 lead. Hess wasn't giving the Penguins much of anything as she struck out two in the 2
nd and went 1-2-3 in the 3
rd. Presbyterian couldn't add on with their momentum as Youngstown St. led off the 4
th with a double. Hess would send the next three batters to the dugout and leave the runner stranded. The exact same thing happened in the 5
th for the Penguins with a leadoff double, but once again Hess got out of it, striking out two of the next three. PC got some insurance in the bottom of the 6
th as
Jaiden Tweed got to second with a single and stolen base. She was driven home by
Bailey Watkins. After another single and advancement from
Layna Johnson, Tucker brought home Watkins to push the lead to 4-0. That's where it would stand as Hess went 1-2-3 in the 7
th to secure the win.
Game 2 – St. Peter's
Haley Haselden got the start in game two as she sat down the Peacocks in order to open the game. PC threatened in the bottom half as they got the bases loaded, but left all three runners stranded to end the 1
st. Haselden did well as she got out of trouble in the 2
nd and 3
rd to keep the game scoreless. The Blue Hose had a chance to open the scoring in the bottom of the 3
rd as Freeman and Tucker were on second and third with one out. Hewes lifted one down the left field line as the catch was made and Tucker tried to tag, but was thrown out at the plate to end the inning. St. Peter's used that energy to score a run in the 4
th as a double, error, and single allowed them to take the lead. Presbyterian answered in the bottom as they rallied with two outs. Tweed got on and stole second, and
Kelby Goodrum knocked her in with a single to left-center. PC had another chance to take the lead in the 5
th with runners on 1
st and 2
nd with one out, but the Peacocks rolled a double play to get out of the inning. The Blue Hose finally took their chances as they took the lead in the 6
th. Hess led off with a double and after a sac bunt from Clark, Tweed singled to bring home the go-ahead run. However, the Peacocks made a rally in the 7
th to score three runs and outlast the Blue Hose in a 4-2 ballgame.
