Freeman Powers Blue Hose Past Runnin’ Bulldogs

CLINTON, S.C. – Behind two home runs and a school-record seven RBIs from Lath Freeman, the Presbyterian Blue Hose (25-8, BSC: 11-4) defeated the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs (13-19, BSC: 5-10), 13-4, to complete the three-game series sweep.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the first inning, Gardner-Webb scored two runs on two hits. The Blue Hose took the lead for good with four runs on three hits in the second inning, Rebecca Clark scored the first run of the inning after a Gardner-Webb error. The big hit of the inning was a three-run home run by Freeman over the center field wall. Gardner-Webb added a run in the third inning. Then, Blue Hose blew the game open with five runs in the bottom of the third inning. Jaiden Tweed scored the first run of the inning on a single to right field by Bailey Watkins while the other four runs of the inning came off a Freeman grand slam over the left field wall. Gardner-Webb cut Presbyterian's lead to 9-4 with a run in the fourth inning. Clark connected on a home run over the left field wall giving the Blue Hose a 10-4 lead after four innings. In the fifth inning, Presbyterian's Kennedy Rhue scored after a Gardner-Webb error. In the sixth inning, Jillian Hewes blasted a two-run double off the right field wall giving the Blue Hose a nine-run lead which ended the game due to the run rule.

Presbyterian pitcher Haley Haselden threw three shutout innings to record the win in relief.
 
NOTABLES
  • Freeman finished the game with seven RBIs which is a school Division I single-game record.
  • Presbyterian collected a season-high 14 hits. Four players recorded multiple-hit games. Freeman and Hewes finished the game with three hits apiece. Layna Johnson and Watkins each collected two hits.
  • Presbyterian now has 25 wins which are the most wins by the Blue Hose since winning 25 games in 2016.
  • The Blue Hose set a school record for Big South Conference wins with their 11th league victory today.

Presbyterian continues Big South Conference play with a three-game series in Farmville, Virginia against Longwood, April 15-16. The series begins with one game on Friday, April 15 at 5 p.m. and then the series concludes with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 16 beginning at 11 a.m.
