CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian Blue Hose softball team (22-8, BSC: 8-4) split a road doubleheader at the Charleston Southern Buccaneers (15-19, BSC: 5-7) on Saturday. In game one, Charleston Southern defeated Presbyterian, 5-3. In game two, the Blue Hose defeated the Buccaneers, 5-4. The Blue Hose won their third Big South Conference series after defeating Charleston Southern twice in their three-game road series.
GAME ONE
Charleston Southern scored four runs in the third inning. In the fifth inning, the Blue Hose got back into the game with three runs on three hits.
Layna Johnson got the Blue Hose on the scoreboard after scoring on
Kaitlyn Tucker's double to left centerfield.
Lath Freeman connected on a two-run home run over the leftfield wall. Charleston Southern added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to make their final margin of victory, 5-3.
GAME TWO
Presbyterian scored three runs in the top of the first inning on three hits.
Jillian Hewes connected on a single that scored Tucker and Johnson. Freeman scored the third run of the inning on
Morgan Hess's sacrifice fly to rightfield. The Blue Hose tacked on two more runs after
Jaiden Tweed's two-run home run over the centerfield wall. Charleston Southern cut Presbyterian's lead to one run after scoring four runs on five hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Blue Hose held Charleston Southern scoreless over the final two innings for the road win.
NOTABLES
- Tucker collected four hits while scoring two runs in the doubleheader.
- Tweed, Hewes, and Freeman each recorded two RBIs in the doubleheader.
- Haley Haselden, who pitched in relief in each game, finished the doubleheader with 11 strikeouts in six innings of relief. Haselden collected her first save of the season in the game two win.
