Fast Start Leads Blue Hose to Series Opening Victory

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College baseball team used 10 runs over the first five innings and staved off a late charge from Winthrop to take Friday's series opener 10-5 at the PC Baseball Complex. Eric Toth and Ryan Ouzts led the offense with three hits apiece and Charlie McDaniel tossed eight innings to grab his fifth win of the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- PC jumped on the Eagles quickly in the first with two-run doubles off the bats of Toth and Ouzts to take the early 4-0 lead.
- Dalton Reeves added an RBI single in the second to make it 5-0.
- In the third, Noah Lebron recorded a sac fly followed in the fourth by sac flies from Reeves and Jeremiah Boyd to push the lead to 8-0 thru four frames.
- An Eagles wild pitch in the fifth followed by an RBI single from Toth pushed the lead to 10-0.
- PC was able to keep Winthrop off the board until the seventh when the guests pushed across a pair of runs.
- The Eagles scored three in the ninth before Ymker shut the door for the save and gave Presbyterian the 10-5 series-opening win.
 
NOTABLES
- Toth totaled his 12th multi-hit game of the season with three hits to lead the way along with Ouzts who also tallied a career-high three hits.
- Toth extended his hit streak to 15 in a row on Friday as well.
- Jack Gorman added two hits for his team-high 14th multi-hit game.
- Brody Fahr pushed his reached base streak to 29 straight games with his base hit in Friday's win.
- McDaniel tossed a season-high 8.0 innings not allowing the Eagles to score a run until the seventh inning. The Blue Hose sophomore needed just 95 pitches to get thru eight innings an earn his fifth win of the season.
- PC improved to 11-3 on the season when outhitting an opponent. The Blue Hose also picked up their 14th win of the season when scoring first.
 
 UP NEXT
 -  The Blue Hose continue their weekend set against Winthrop on Saturday with first pitch set for 3 p.m… PC will honor its 2022 senior class prior to first pitch at approximately 2:45 p.m. on Saturday.
