CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian Blue Hose (30-11, Big South: 15-6) behind solid pitching and timely hitting defeated the Winthrop Eagles (17-30, Big South: 10-11), 5-2, to complete the three-game series sweep.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the first inning, Presbyterian's
Rebecca Clark connected on a double to center field which scored
Morgan Hess with the game's first run.
In the third inning, the Blue Hose tacked on two more runs.
Lath Freeman put the first run on the board with a solo home run over the left field wall. Then,
Kelby Goodrum reached base on a Winthrop throwing error which scored
Jillian Hewes with the inning's second run.
In the top of the fifth inning, Winthrop scored two runs on two hits cutting Presbyterian's lead to 3-2.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Presbyterian added a couple of insurance runs after Hess connected on a two-run home run over the left field wall.
Jenna Greene collected her 15
th win of the season after recording nine strikeouts while limiting the Eagles to three hits and two runs over four and two-thirds innings.
Haley Haselden picked up her second save of the season with two and a third innings of scoreless relief.
NOTABLES
- Hess connected on her team-leading 11th home run of the season. Hess finished the game with three hits.
- Greene's 15 wins are tied for the second-most wins in a season in the program's Division I era.
- Hewes connected on two hits while scoring two runs in the game.
