Blue Hose Drop Season Opener in Big Orange Bash

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College volleyball team dropped its season opener 3-1 (13-25, 25-17, 24-26, 16-25) to Louisiana Tech on Friday afternoon at the Big Orange Bash in Clemson, S.C… The Blue Hose were led by junior middle blocker Hailey Grocholski who totaled a career-high 11 kills while hitting .667 and added four blocks.

How it Happened 
 - Louisiana Tech jumped out quickly in the opening set with an early 6-0 burst to force a quick timeout from the Blue Hose. Following the timeout, the Blue Hose and Lady Techsters traded points with La. Tech maintaining a 14-8 advantage. A quick 4-1 burst pushed Louisiana Tech to an 18-9 lead and forced PC to use a timeout. The Lady Techsters continued to pressure the Blue Hose en route to taking set one 25-13.
- The Blue Hose responded quickly in set two with a 5-1 run to lead to an early Louisiana Tech timeout in the second set. PC continued to pressure the Lady Techsters as the Blue Hose pushed it out to a 10-3 advantage behind four straight kills from Paige Cairns, Anna Baranski, and Kasey Battle. La. Tech battled back in set two and cut the deficit to one, 17-16 before an 8-1 Blue Hose run led them to a set two win at 25-17. In the burst, Abby Sparkman totaled a pair of key aces to propel the Blue Hose to a set win. 
- Similar to set one, La. Tech jumped out to a 9-3 advantage in the third set. The Blue Hose clawed back and cut it to 12-10 off of a solo block from Hailey Grocholski. Both teams traded mini bursts before the Lady Techsters pushed it to a 20-14 lead. PC used an 8-2 run to even the match at 22 but Louisiana Tech had the final run en route to a 26-24 set three win. 
- The Lady Techsters and Blue Hose traded points in the fourth set before a 5-0 run from Louisiana Tech led to a Blue Hose timeout. PC was able to cut it down to four at 16-12 before a 9-4 run from Louisiana Tech clinched the match on Friday.

 
Notables
 - Grocholski opened the 2022 season with her first career 10+ kill performance as a Blue Hose as she totaled 11 kills in the opener. She also led the defensive side for PC with four blocks.
- Sophomore Rylee Moorehead totaled nine kills along with four digs and a pair of aces. 
- Senior Paige Cairns and freshman Anna Baranski each had eight kills. Baranski started her Blue Hose career with a bang as she added 16 assists and five digs in the contest.
- Kinsey Bailey recorded a team-high 19 assists while also adding five digs in the match.
- Baranski along with Elyse Hutchinson and Sophia Del Valle each saw their first action for Presbyterian College on Friday afternoon. 
- Redshirt junior Abby Sparkman totaled a career-high with four service aces. The Boise, Idaho native also added seven digs and a pair of helpers to her stat line.
