CLINTON, S.C. – In the first Big South Conference tussle to take place from their home turf after opening the league schedule earlier in the week, the Presbyterian College women's soccer team was bested by the Radford Highlanders on Saturday by the final margin of 5-2.
A pair of second-half goals from the Blue Hose weren't enough to combat the visitors' four-score output over the final 45 minutes, keeping the Highlanders without an outright loss since the opening contest of the 2022 campaign.
FINAL SCORE: Radford, 5 – Presbyterian, 2
RECORDS: Presbyterian (0-7-3), Radford (5-1-4)
LOCATION: Edens Field at Martin Stadium (Clinton, S.C.)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Joining freshman
Sloan Spees and graduate
Kori Lawrence by hoisting the team's goal total to seven, sophomore midfielder
Madison Hindman provided PC with their first strike of the afternoon at the 56:40 time stamp. However, a 3-0 advantage had already been collected by Radford prior to the second-year player's first career goal which came off an assist by
Reyna Coston.
The second straight outcome with an assist to her credit, Coston's find to Hindman was part of a wild second period that saw six of the game's seven successful shots. Spees added to her team-high goal accumulation by sending in her fourth of the semester with 22 seconds left, aided by a first-time helper from
Sophia Thomson.
Although the team was able to gather nine total looks at the net, Radford would find 12 corner kick opportunities throughout the victory that led to a season-high five scores.
Kelly Hall and
Mackenzie Azuero split time in the goalkeeper's box on Saturday, both halting a trio of would-be Highlander goals.
UP NEXT:
Going back and forth between home and away duties over the first five matches within Big South territory, the Blue Hose and head coach
Brian Purcell will hit the road for their third go-around inside league action, albeit a short drive to USC Upstate in the middle of next week.
Claiming seven wins in 11 meetings against their nearby rival, Presbyterian will look to avenge a 2-0 setback to the Spartans a year ago that came after back-to-back blue and white W's by a combined 5-1 clip. Following a 2-0 loss to Charleston Southern in Spartanburg, USC Upstate sits with three victories, three losses, and three ties before going toe-to-toe with the Blue Hose.
First touch at County University Soccer Stadium next Wednesday is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
