Moorhead Leads Blue Hose Past Dolphins

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Presbyterian College volleyball team led by sophomore Rylee Moorhead picked up a 3-1 (25-20, 20-25,25-22,25-23) victory over Jacksonville in the final match of the Jacksonville Invitational inside Swisher Gym on Saturday afternoon. Moorhead totaled her first double-double of the season with a team-high 16 kills along with 14 digs and a pair of aces in the victory.

"It was a gritty performance on the road today! We switched up our offense going into the 3rd set and the team rose to the occasion. I'm proud of how we battled against the host school today - overall it was a good weekend of volleyball.."

How it Happened 
- The Blue Hose raced out to an early 7-3 advantage highlighted by early aces from Rylee Moorhead and Hailey Grocholski which forced the Dolphins to call an early timeout. Jacksonville was able to cut the margin to just two, 8-6 before each team traded 4-0 burst which led to a 12-10 score midway thru set one. PC maintained the advantage with a 5-2 run to take a 17-12 lead in the opening stanza. Jacksonville battled back with a 5-1 run of its own to cut the PC lead to one, 18-17. PC was able to close on a 7-3 run to take set one, 25-20.
- PC jumped out quickly with a 6-2 run to get the early lead once but Jacksonville responded scoring six of the next seven points to take an 8-7 advantage. The hosts were able to push the lead out to five, 13-8 before the Blue Hose answered with a 7-2 run to even the set at 15. Both teams traded bursts before Jacksonville closed on a 6-1 run to even the match at a set apiece winning the set 25-20.
- Jacksonville got out to the early 8-6 lead before four straight points from PC gave them the 10-8 advantage. The hosts went on a mini burst to even the set at 13 apiece before the Blue Hose regained the advantage with three unanswered giving them the 16-13 lead. JU took an 18-17 lead with a 5-1 spurt in the later portion of set three. PC closed down the stretch on an 8-4 run to take the third set 25-22.
- With the 2-1 match lead, PC raced out of the gates in set four with five straight points to force the Dolphins into an early timeout. Jacksonville fought back with a 9-4 run to even the set up at nine apiece. The Blue Hose were able to push in front following a 7-4 spurt that gave PC the 16-13 edge as the two teams went down the stretch in set four. The two teams traded points with Jacksonville fighting for a fifth set as the Dolphins cut the deficit to one on three occasions before the Blue Hose closed it out with a 25-23 victory and a 3-1 match win.

Notables
- Moorhead matched her career-high on Saturday with the team-best 16 kills. Moorhead set the mark last September against Stetson.
- Moorhead was named to the all-tournament team following Saturday's action.
- Freshman Anna Baranski totaled her third double-double of the season as she totaled a season-high 30 assists while matching her season-best with 17 digs. Baranski also added five kills, three blocks and a pair of aces to the stat line.
- Freshman Elyse Hutchinson totaled a season-high with five blocks while adding five kills to her performance. Hutchinson is currently tied for the team-lead with 15 blocks.
- Aliza Hart made her debut on Saturday as the freshman totaled a pair of digs along with an assist and an ace in the victory.
- Senior Paige Cairns picked up her third 10+ kill performance of the season as she had 10 kills and a dig.
- On the defensive end, junior Anna Hewitt totaled 15 digs for her fifth match of 11+ digs this season. She also added three assists and a pair of aces.
- Kasey Battle finished one off of her career-high as the junior totaled seven kills and hit .238 on Saturday afternoon.

 - The Blue Hose continue their 12-match road swing to begin the 2022 season next weekend with a trip to Boone, N.C. to participate in the Mountaineer Classic. PC faces Furman (10 a.m.) and Texas A&M – Commerce (4 p.m.) next Friday before battling the host App State next Saturday at 2 p.m…
