Women's Basketball Set for Wednesday Night Matchup at Gardner-Webb

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's basketball team hits the road on Wednesday night for a matchup against Gardner-Webb in Boiling Springs set for 7 p.m. from Paul Porter Arena. The matchup with the Runnin' Bulldogs is slated to be broadcast on ESPN+ on Wednesday night.

Opening Tip
- The Blue Hose return to the court on Wednesday to battle Gardner-Webb in Boiling Springs. PC looks to avenge a 64-56 road defeat last year as the Blue Hose defeated Gardner-Webb at home last season 72-58. In last year's matchup at Gardner-Webb, Paige Kindseth pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds in the defeat.
 
Scouting the Runnin' Bulldogs
- Gardner-Webb enters Wednesday night with a 12-4 record including 4-0 in the league after defeating Radford 74-70 on Saturday. The Runnin' Bulldogs are led offensively by Jhessyka Williams who's the lone player in the Big South averaging a double-double with 18.9 ppg and 10.1 rebounds per contest. Alasia Smith has added 13.3 points/game and 9.1 rebounds per game. Gardner-Webb is led from deep by Lauren Bevis who's connected on 34 threes and is averaging 12.6 ppg. Ki'Ari Cain rounds out the double-figure scoring averages for the Runnin' Bulldogs with 10.4 ppg as she's leading the team with 71 assists. The Runnin' Bulldogs have won their last five regular season conference contests with their last league defeat coming to the Blue Hose last February in Clinton. Gardner-Webb has won its last seven home league games.
 
Sjökvist Nets Fourth Freshman of the Week Honors
- After matching her career-high with 21 points in Saturday's conference win over Radford, freshman Tilda Sjökvist has been named Big South Freshman of the Week following the opening week of league play, as announced by the conference office on Monday. The Huskvarna, Sweden native led the Blue Hose averaging 17.5 points/game while distributing 5.5 assists per contest in PC's first two league games against Campbell and Radford. She also pulled down three rebounds per game, shot 44.0% from the field, and connected on 5-of-14 from beyond the arc as the Blue Hose went 1-1 last week, falling 61-53 to Campbell before defeating Radford 78-65 on New Year's Eve.
 
Kierscht Heating Up from Beyond the Arc
- The Blue Hose freshman continues to light it up from beyond the arc especially over the past five games for PC as Aubrie Kierscht has connected on 19-of-35 threes in the last five highlighted by a season-high six against Winthrop. Kierscht has made a team-high 31 on the season which puts her third in the Big South as she sits 46th nationally in three-point percentage at 41.9% thus far in the 2022-23 season.
 
Sjökvist Racking Up the Helpers
- The Huskvarna, Sweden native continues to rack up the assists over the past four games in particular as she's totaled 35 assists in the Blue Hose last five games including six helpers in four of. Sjökvist sits second in the league and 67th in the nation in assists with 67 as she's also tied for the lead in the conference with 4.5 assists/game. She's had seven games this season with 5+ assists including four of her last five games totaling at least six helpers.
 
Blue Hose in the Ranks
- Bryanna Brady enters Wednesday's matchup fourth in the league in scoring with 12.9 points/game... She's also first in field goal percentage posting a 52.3% shooting percentage and is seventh in rebounds at 6.8 rebounds per game... Kierscht leads the Blue Hose with 31 threes which puts the Blue Hose freshman third in the Big South while Mara Neira is fourth with 24 and Sjökvist is tied for seventh with 20 threes... Sjökvist is second in the conference with 67 assists as she also paces the league with 4.5 assists/game... She's also tied for third in assist/turnover ratio at 1.2... Brady is second in the conference with 18 blocks... As a team, the Blue Hose rank third in the league with 63.9 points/game... The Blue Hose sit second in the Big South with 114 threes... PC is second in the conference with 39.7 rebounds per contest... Presbyterian leads the conference in assists with 223 total helpers...
 
Head-to-Head vs. the Runnin' Bulldogs
- PC holds a tight 16-14 lead in the head-to-head battle against Gardner-Webb with the two splitting the last 10 meetings. Presbyterian earned a 72-58 victory over the Runnin' Bulldogs in last season's home regular-season finale for the Blue Hose. The Blue Hose look to tally their first win in Boiling Springs on Wednesday since January 14, 2020 when PC downed Gardner-Webb 56-53 as the Runnin' Bulldogs have defeated PC in each of the past two meetings in Boiling Springs.
 
Last Five Games for the Blue Hose
- Brady leads the Blue Hose in the last five games with 16.4 points/game along with a team-high 8.4 rebounds per contest. The Blue Hose fifth-year senior has tallied a pair of double-doubles in that stretch including 18 points and 11 rebounds on Saturday against Charleston Southern and 16 points and 10 rebounds against Campbell... Kierscht highlighted by her 19 threes is averaging 13.4 ppg as she's recorded a 51.1% (23-of-45) field goal percentage... Sjökvist is averaging 12.8 points/game while also tallying a team-high 35 assists...
