Blue Hose Set to Face Bucs in Charleston on Saturday

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's basketball team hits the road for the first time in 2023 on Saturday afternoon for a 2 p.m. against Charleston Southern in Big South action. The matchup from the Buccaneer Fieldhouse will be shown on ESPN+ from Charleston.

Opening Tip
- The Blue Hose hit the road for the first time in 2023 on Saturday with a trip to Charleston to battle the Bucs on Saturday afternoon. On Wednesday night following a tie score at the half, the Presbyterian College women's basketball team used a 15-3 run to begin the second half en route to the 66-47 victory on Wednesday night inside the Templeton Center.
 
Scouting the Bucs
- Charleston Southern enters play on Saturday with a 2-12 mark following an 80-70 defeat on Wednesday at Longwood. The Bucs are led offensively by Catherine Alben who's averaging 9.4 points per game and is also averaging 4.2 rebounds/game. Kennedi Jackson leads CSU with 5.4 rebounds per contest. Similar to the Blue Hose, CSU also has a victory over Western Carolina as the Bucs defeated the Catamounts 62-43 back on November 23rd.
 
Sjökvist Nets Fourth Freshman of the Week Honors
- After matching her career-high with 21 points in Saturday's conference win over Radford, freshman Tilda Sjökvist has been named Big South Freshman of the Week following the opening week of league play, as announced by the conference office on Monday. The Huskvarna, Sweden native led the Blue Hose averaging 17.5 points/game while distributing 5.5 assists per contest in PC's first two league games against Campbell and Radford. She also pulled down three rebounds per game, shot 44.0% from the field, and connected on 5-of-14 from beyond the arc as the Blue Hose went 1-1 last week, falling 61-53 to Campbell before defeating Radford 78-65 on New Year's Eve.
 
Kierscht Heating Up from Beyond the Arc
- The Blue Hose freshman continues to light it up from beyond the arc especially over the past four games for PC as Kierscht has connected on 18-of-32 threes in the last four highlighted by a season-high six against Winthrop on Wednesday night. Kierscht has made a team-high 30 on the season which puts her third in the Big South as she sits 55th nationally in three-point percentage at 42.3% thus far in the 2022-23 season.
 
Sjökvist Racking Up the Helpers
- The Huskvarna, Sweden native continues to rack up the assists over the past four games in particular as she's totaled 29 assists in the Blue Hose last four games including eight on Wednesday against Winthrop. Sjökvist sits second in the league and 64th in the nation in assists with 61 as she's also tied for the lead in the conference with 4.4 assists/game. She's had six games this season with 5+ assists including three of her last four games totaling at least eight helpers.
 
Blue Hose in the Ranks
- Brady enters the contest on Saturday in Charleston fifth in the league in points/game with 12.5... She also is eighth in the conference with 6.5 rebounds per contest... Brady also paces the conference shooting 53.3% from the floor... Kierscht is third in the league with 30 threes as Mara Neira is tied for fourth with 21. Sjökvist is tied for sixth in the Big South with 20 triples... Sjökvist sits second in the league with 61 assists and is tied for the league lead with a 4.4 assists/game mark... The Huskvarna, Sweden native is tied for third in the league with a 1.2 assist/turnover ratio... Brady sits second in the league with 17 blocks... As a team, the Blue Hose sit third in the league in scoring at 63.8 ppg and the team is second in three-point percentage at 33.3%... The team sits second in the league making 7.6 threes per game thus far during the 2022-23 season... PC also ranks second in total rebounds (39.4) and leads the league with 210 assists...
 
Head-to-Head vs. the Bucs
- PC holds a 16-13 edge against Charleston Southern during the Blue Hose DI era with the Blue Hose winning six of the last eight meeting dating back to the end of the 2017-18 season.
 
Last Five Games for the Blue Hose
- In the last five games, Aubrie Kierscht is leading the offense averaging 13.8 points per game highlighted by her 19 made threes in that stretch for the Blue Hose. Brady is just behind Kierscht with 13.6 per game and Sjökvist is averaging 13.0 per game over the last five contests. Over the last five, Brady is shooting 56.9% and Kierscht 50% from the field as PC is shooting 45.5 as a team from the floor. Sjökvist leads the Blue Hose with 30 assists and is tied with Mara Neira totaling 10 steals.

- PC is scheduled to play 29 contests under the direction of fifth-year head coach Alaura Sharp during the 2022-23 season, including 18 league games which begin on December 29 at Campbell. The Blue Hose are slated to make trips to St. Thomas, Minnesota, Morehead State, UNCG, Florida, and Florida State in non-conference play while welcoming Carolina University, Furman, WCU, Jacksonville, and Bluefield to Clinton. Presbyterian will play nine home-and-homes with the league in 2022, beginning with Campbell on December 29.
 
New Faces Enter the Equation
- The Blue Hose enters the 2022-23 season with many fresh faces 2022 as 11 new players join the squad. The Blue Hose freshman class includes guards Aubrie Kierscht (Salina, Kan.), Ashley Carrillo (Liberal, Kan.), Tilda Sjokvist (Huskvarna, Sweden), Natalie Herrin (Patterson, Ga.), and forward Dennaye Hinds (Bridgeport, Conn.). In addition to the five freshmen, PC added a host of upperclassmen in 2022 to round out the roster. Coach Sharp welcomes Christina Kline (La Salle), Mara Neira (Eastern Wyoming), Sonia Sato (McCook CC), Dagne Apsite (UTEP), Nuria Cunill (Eastern Washington), and Laila Grant (Vincennes).
