PC Back on the Road for a Weekend of Big South Matches

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Presbyterian College volleyball team is prepared for two Big South Conference matches on the road this weekend. First, in Rock Hill, S.C. with a match against the Winthrop Eagles on Friday, October 20 at 6:00 p.m., followed by a trip to Boiling Springs, N.C. to face the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs on Saturday, October 21.

A LOOK AT THE BLUE HOSE
So far this season the Blue Hose have recorded 749 kills (10.4 kpg), 681 assists (9.5 apg), and 1096 digs (15.2 dpg). We have seen PC improve through each game this season, with standout players including, senior opposite Kasey Battle leading the team with 183 kills (2.54 kpg), she also has recorded 91 digs and 37 blocks. Junior outside hitter Hannah Rowe has tallied 157 kills (2.71 kpg), nine service aces, and 142 digs. Sophomore setter Anna Baranski has a total of 300 assists (4.92 apg), 19 service aces, and 133 digs. Sophomore libero Sophia Del Valle leads the team in digs with 253 (3.78 dpg), she also has 62 assists, and 14 service aces. PC recorded a .269 hitting percentage in the last matchup against Winthrop, which is their best of the season.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT – WINTHROP
The Eagles enter Friday's game with a 6-1 conference record with wins over Presbyterian, Gardner-Webb, Radford, Charleston Southern, USC Upstate, and UNC Asheville. Over their first 18 matches of the season they averaged 11.52 kills per set while hitting at .171 percent. The Eagles stat leaders include senior opposite Brookelynn Thomas with 170 kills (2.66 kpg), 68 blocks, 13 service aces, and a .293 hitting percentage, freshman defensive specialist Alyah Cadavid who has recorded 176 digs (2.67 dpg), and 13 service aces, and sophomore setter Isabella Murray with 593 assists (8.98 apg), 15 service aces, and 25 blocks. Winthrop leads the all-time series between the two teams 30-10. PC fell to Winthrop in their last matchup this season on Oct. 7, after a close five set match. The Eagles are led by first year head coach Heather Gearhart.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT – GARDNER-WEBB
The Runnin' Bulldogs enter the weekend with a 3-4 conference record with wins over Radford, Charleston Southern, and UNC Asheville. Over their first 19 games of the season they averaged 11.8 kills per set while hitting at .171 percent. The Runnin' Bulldogs stat leaders include freshman outside hitter Jenna Otts who has recorded 242 kills (3.51 kpg) and 29 blocks, sophomore libero Sophia Kotsovolos with 335 digs (4.86 dpg) and 19 service aces, sophomore setter Morgan Hornaday with 272 assists (6.33 apg) and 81 digs, and freshman outside hitter Madison Smith 37 service aces, 132 kills, and 159 digs. The Blue Hose lead the all-time series between the two teams 23-11 after PC won their first matchup this season 3-1. The Runnin' Bulldogs are led by third year head coach Eric Plunkett.
