Presbyterian Falls to Maine

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.  – The Presbyterian Blue Hose (4-1) suffered their first setback of the season with an 80-66 loss to the Maine Black Bears (3-2) in their second game of the First Coast Classic on Friday afternoon at the UNF Arena.
 
Junior forward Jonah Pierce recorded his first double-figure scoring game at PC with a team-high 16 points. Junior guard Samage Teel recorded his fourth straight double-figure scoring game with 11 points. Juniors forward Kaleb Scott and Marquis Barnett scored nine points each.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED

FIRST HALF – Presbyterian's Teel scored the game's first points with a three at the 18:48 mark. Maine scored six straight points taking a 6-3 lead.  PC regained the lead, 8-6, after a three from Kory Mincy and a basket inside from Pierce. Maine scored tying the score at eight and then a layup from Barnett pushed the Blue Hose back in front, 10-8. Maine converted on two straight baskets regaining the lead. Another three by Mincy pushed the Blue Hose back in front, 13-12. Maine connected on a three and a layup from Pierce found the game tied at 15 with 10 minutes left in the half. Maine scored five straight points taking the first half lead for good, 20-15. Maine would take a 32-25 lead into the locker room.
 
SECOND HALF – Scott began the second half scoring with a layup cutting Maine's lead to five points. Maine scored four straight points pushing their lead to 36-27. PC cut Maine's lead to 41-37 after Barnett converted on a three-point field goal with 14 minutes on the clock. The Black Bears answered PC's run with a 13-4 run pushing their lead to 54-41 at the 9:51 mark. With 3:32 on the clock, Presbyterian's Teel knocked down a three from the top of the key cutting Maine's lead to 67-61. However, the Blue Hose were not able to get any closer to Maine for the rest of the game.
 
NOTES
  • Presbyterian shot 50 percent from the field and from beyond the three-point arc.
  • Teel connected on three three-point field goals and Jamahri Harvey and Mincy each knocked down two threes.

Presbyterian concludes play in the First Coast Classic against Northwestern State on Saturday, November 18 at 2 p.m.
