CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College Blue Hose women's basketball team (2-3) fell to the East Tennessee State University Buccaneers (3-1) 72-56 despite three players recording double-figure points.
Bryanna Brady recorded a season-high 22 points while
Mara Neira scored 13 and
Tilda Sjokvist took 11.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter – PC scored the first bucket of the game, but ETSU then took the next eight-points in a row. The Blue Hose took six of the next eight-points behind four from
Nuria Cunill and two from Neira. After a media timeout the Blue Hose came out strong with Neira drilling back-to-back three-point jumpers for Presbyterian to give them a 14-12 lead. The Buccaneers answered by scoring the last seven-points of the quarter to put the score at 19-14.
Second Quarter – Brady scored eight unanswered points to start off the second quarter and give the Blue Hose a 22-19 lead. ETSU was able to tie up the score at 22-points apiece before Brady made two more baskets. The Buccaneers took six of the last eight-points of the quarter to go into halftime with a tie game at 28-points apiece.
Third Quarter – East Tennessee came out of halftime with 14 unanswered points before Sjokvist made a layup in the paint to end the Buccaneers streak. With just under five minutes left in the third quarter ETSU led 42-30. After a scoreless two minutes the Buccaneers scored seven of the next eight-points which gave them an 18-point lead. Sjokvist hit a three-pointer with no time on the clock to end the third quarter with a score of 49-34.
Fourth Quarter – Presbyterian started off the final quarter of the game by scoring six out of the first nine-points led by three-points from Brady. ETSU made a free throw, but Sjokvist hit a deep three-pointer to make the score 53-43 in the Buccaneers favor. ETSU scored eight of the next 10-points to push their lead to 16-points. PC scored four of the next six-points with help from both
Natalie Herrin and Sjokvist. After some back and forth with both teams being in the bonus the game ended in ETSU's favor with a score of 72-56.
