Last week, the Blue Hose defeated the Morehead State Eagles in their closest game of the season with a final score of 65-59. Presbyterian's
Tilda Sjökvist led the Blue Hose with 26-points which is now her new career-high. She also added three steals, three assists, and went perfect from the line (4-4).
Mara Neira scored 14-points in her efforts against the Eagles and added two assists, two rebounds, and a steal. As a team, the Blue Hose recorded a new season high after shooting 55% (11-20) from outside the arc. They also tallied a 46.0 (23-50) field goal percentage and scored 19 of their points off of turnovers.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
North Carolina Central enters Wednesday's game with a 3-3 record with wins over Mid-Atlantic Christian, Johnson & Wales, and Western Carolina, and losses against the University of Washington, Wofford, and Duke. The Eagles average 70 points per game and 39.3 rebounds per game. Redshirt Senior Guard Kimeria Burks leads the team with an average of 15.3 ppg, while Freshman guard Kyla Bryant averages 12.0 ppg.
BIG SOUTH WEEKLY AWARDS
Sjökvist was named the Big South's Player of the Week (November 27). After the Blue Hose took victory in two games last week, sophomore guard
Tilda Sjökvist earned her first Big South Player of the Week honor for her performances. For the week, she averaged 22 ppg, shot 62.5% (15-of-24) from the field, and 50% (6-of-12) from outside the arc. She went a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line while adding five steals, seven assists, and three rebounds to her efforts. This is the second week in a row that Presbyterian women's basketball players have claimed Big South Player of the Week awards, with
Bryanna Brady achieving the honor the week before.
BLUE HOSE DOUBLE FIGURE SCORERS
Over the first seven games, Presbyterian has already had eight different players score in double-figures. Brady (four times), Sjökvist (four times), Kierscht (three times), Neira (twice), Carrillo (once), Kline (once), Kindseth (once), and Cunill (once) have all tallied double-digit scoring games this season.
PRESBYTERIAN – NORTH CAROLINA CENTRAL SERIES
In Presbyterian College's Division I history they have competed against NC Central nine times. The first time these two teams faced off was in the 2009-10 season when the Eagles won by just one-point with a score of 57-56. The last time these two teams played against each other was in the 2017-18 season where Presbyterian won 69-60. Overall, the Blue Hose lead the series between the two teams 6-3.
