Blue Hose Come Up Short Against Highlanders

CLINTON, S.C.  – The Presbyterian Blue Hose (5-19, Big South: 1-10) came up short in a 67-59 loss to the Radford Highlanders (15-9, Big South: 9-2) at the Templeton Center on Wednesday evening.
 
Terrell Ard, Jr. led the Blue Hose with 17 points and eight rebounds. Crosby James scored 11 points off the bench. Owen McCormack scored nine points and grabbed seven rebounds.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF – The two teams exchanged baskets for the first six minutes. With Radford leading 11-8 with 13:37 on the clock, the Blue Hose behind the scoring of James, McCormack, and Kobe Stewart scored eight straight points taking a 16-11 lead with 8:20 on the clock. Radford scored five straight points tying the score at 16 with 6:20 on the clock. A free throw from Ard with 5:56 put the Blue Hose back in front. Radford regained the lead after a basket inside. A jumper in the lane by Jalen Forrest put the Blue Hose back in front 19-18 with five minutes left in the half. Then, Radford went on a 12-0 run over the next four minutes to take a 30-19 lead with a minute and a half on the clock. The Blue Hose behind baskets by Stewart and James scored four of the half's final six points cutting Radford's lead to 32-23 at intermission.  
 
SECOND HALF – Early in the half, Radford increased their lead to 13 points on two occasions. With Radford leading 38-25 at the 17:24 mark, the Blue Hose went on an 8-0 run cutting Radford's lead to 38-33 on a Trevon Reddish-Rhone dunk at the 14:40 mark. Ard, McCormack, and Marquis Barnett also scored during the Blue Hose run. Radford stopped the Blue Hose run with a three from the wing. PC cut their deficit back to five points after Reddish-Rhone completed a three-point play. Radford maintained a lead of 5-8 points for the next six minutes until Barnett converted on a hook shot in the lane at the 7:31 mark cutting Radford's lead to 52-48. The Highlanders would push their lead back to between 5-8 points for the next four minutes. With three and a half minutes on the clock, Radford led 61-53. The Blue Hose scored six straight points getting within two points, 61-59 when Ard scored inside at the 2:20 mark. Ard scored all six points during the run. Presbyterian had the ball with a chance to tie or take the lead with under two minutes on the clock. The Blue Hose were not able to convert on their scoring chances and Radford connected on several free throws in the closing minute to finish off the win.  
 

NOTES
  • With 10 offensive rebounds, Presbyterian tallied their 14th double-figure offensive boards game of the season.
  • Presbyterian scored 40 points in the paint which is the second-highest tally for points in the paint this season.
  • Ard recorded his third straight and his seventh double-digit scoring output of the season with his 17 points.
  • James recorded his 12th double-figure scoring game of the year with 11 points.
  • James's 11 bench points was the 18th double-figure scoring off the bench by a Blue Hose this season.
