Blue Hose Edged by EKU on Saturday

CHATTANOOGA, TENN... –  Junior Lucianna Piedra and Sophomore Claudia Sanchez earned a doubles win paired together before each tallying singles win but the Presbyterian College women's tennis team came up short in a 4-3 defeat on Saturday to EKU at the Strang-Voges Tennis Center in Chattanooga.

"It was a heartbreaker today. The team played and fought so hard throughout the match and came up just a little short. We have a quick turnaround tomorrow but I know the team will be ready for the challenge." 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- PC got out to the early lead on Saturday with a 6-3 win by McKenzie Davis/Madison Dennett before Sanchez/Piedra tallied the 6-4 victory at the No.2 spot to give Presbyterian the 1-0 lead.
- Eastern Kentucky pushed in front 2-1 early in singles before Piedra carried her doubles momentum over with a straight-set win at the top spot to even the match at two.
- EKU pushed in front again with a three-set victory on court three to take the 3-2 lead in Saturday's match.
- Sanchez earned a three-set comeback win at the No. 2 spot before the Colonels won in three sets at No. 4 to earn the victory on Saturday.
 
NOTABLES
- Sanchez and Piedra each earned their third singles victories of the season. The duo in doubles also grabbed their second victory of the year earlier in the match that clinched PC the 1-0 lead.

- The weekend wraps up with a 9 a.m. start on Sunday morning against Chattanooga.
