Fast Start Brings Boston U. Win over LAX in ’23 Clinton Opener

CLINTON, S.C. – A six-goal accumulation gathered over the contest's first 15 minutes provided enough wiggle room the rest of the way for the undefeated Boston University Terriers to knock down the Presbyterian College lacrosse team on Sunday afternoon, gradually pulling away for a 15-6 result that kept the northern visitors' win streak intact at five games.

In what denoted the first home appearance of the young campaign for the Blue Hose, a four-goal differential at the end of one left head coach Eric Clakeley's squad playing catch-up over the rest of the meeting, an outcome that saw five different PC performers land at least one score.

A spirited effort against a surging team to close the weekend, Presbyterian stays at home for the only other Bailey Memorial bout of the season inside of the nonconference realm in their next appearance, hosting first-year program Xavier six days from now. Opening draw control – similar to Sunday's first-time affair – will be held at noon.

NOTABLES
- Now only four goals away from becoming just the second PC player in the program's history to eclipse the 100-score tab, senior Abby Edmisten's two opening-half strikes brought her club to within four at the halftime break, part of a three-point day by the veteran who added an assist in between her two goals at the 13:18 mark in the 2nd.

- Junior Kylie Sullivan and second-year attacker Willow Hammond mirrored each other offensively on Sunday by notching one goal and one assist each, finding the gap in the Terrier defense in the first two periods to give the duo a combined tally of eight scores in three games.

- On the subject of two players copying each other in the stat sheet, sophomore NaQuia Hall and senior Madison Foti each grabbed their first strike of the campaign in the competitive encounter (the former representing her first in a PC uniform after spending the previous year at Kennesaw State). Those 3rd-period connections – which occurred six minutes apart – extended the count to eight separate Blue Hose members registering at least one goal throughout the infant stages of the schedule.

- Rookie keeper Lilly Phillips stayed at that spot for the full 60 against an offense that has scored a minimum of 14 goals in each of their five matchups, halting six Terrier attempts after a terrific 12-save output her last time out in the one-goal thriller over Delaware State.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edmisten and Hammond (Presbyterian's top two goal-getters with 12 between them on the season), found the back of the net in unassisted form seven minutes apart on Sunday, although the aforementioned six-score start from Boston U. put the visitors ahead after one chapter.

- Either two of PC's 2nd-period connections came from Edmisten on a goal or assist, where the PC defense limited the Terriers to their lowest goal calculation of the contest within a 15-minute spurt (two). The visitors would go on to reach a 7-2 separation over the rest of the skirmish, however, making them 2-0 against South Carolina schools following a 15-8 decision over Wofford 48 hours ago.

- Despite the defeat, the Blue Hose were able to mostly keep pace with Boston U's electric reputation on the attack, minus one in total shot attempts at 27-26. Additionally, PC tied the Terriers in ground-ball pickups with 11 apiece, completing 16 successful clears and 15 on-target shot tries.

UP NEXT
- Another first-ever encounter lies in the cards for Clakeley's unit next weekend, bringing Xavier to Bailey Memorial in the midst of their debut season where they sit at 2-2. Bouncing back from consecutive L's to Oregon and Detroit Mercy eight days apart, the Musketeers took down two straight Big South members (Radford and Longwood) by a combined score of 31-28 this weekend.

- Saturday's inaugural duel with Xavier will be streamed live via ESPN+.
