Presbyterian Falls in a Tightly Contested Game to Campbell in the Big South Tournament

CHARLOTTE, N.C.  – In a game that came down to the closing seconds, the Presbyterian Blue Hose (5-27) battled to the end but came up just short in a 68-63 loss to the Campbell Camels (14-17) in the first round of the Big South Conference Tournament at Bojangles Coliseum.
 
Crosby James connected on four three-point field goals on his way to a team-high 15 points. James also grabbed seven rebounds. Owen McCormack in his final college game scored 11 points while connecting on three three-point field goals. Jalen Forrest rounded out the Blue Hose double-figure scorers with 11 points.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF – Campbell scored the first four points of the game. PC scored 10 of the next 12 points taking a 10-6 lead after a jumper in the lane by Forrest. McCormack and Marquis Barnett scored early baskets for the Blue Hose. The Camels scored nine straight points taking a 15-10 lead with 13:39 on the clock. A layup by Barnett ended the Camels' scoring run.  The Blue Hose scored seven of the next nine points taking a 19-16 lead after a driving layup by James with 9:45 on the clock. Campbell took a nine-point lead, 28-19, after a 12-0 run over the next six minutes. Behind the scoring of Forrest, James, and Kobe Stewart, Presbyterian cut Campbell's lead to 30-25 with 1:43 left in the half. Campbell scored four of the final six points of the half to take a 34-27 leading into the locker room.  
 
SECOND HALF – Three minutes into the half, Campbell led the Blue Hose by nine, 40-31. A jumper by Terrell Ard, Jr. got the Blue Hose scoring run going and after a three from the wing by McCormack, PC had cut Campbell's lead to 41-39 with 15 minutes on the clock. Campbell answered with a three pushing their lead back to five points. Presbyterian scored eight of the next 10 points taking a 47-46 lead after a three from the top of the key by James at the 12:06 mark. The lead exchanged hands several times over the next six and a half minutes. With 5:25 on the clock, Forrest connected on a free throw giving the Blue Hose their final lead of the game, 56-55. The Camels regained the lead for good and would increase their lead to five points a couple of times over the final two minutes of the half. The Blue Hose had several chances to tie the score but they committed several turnovers over the final minute so PC was not able to tie the score or regain the lead in the closing minute.

NOTES
  • Behind the scoring of James, the Blue Hose finished the game with a 21-7 advantage in points off the bench.
  • James tallied his 14th double-figure scoring game of the season with 15 points off the bench.
  • Forrest's 11 points marked his 17th double-figure scoring game of the season.
  • In his final college game, McCormack collected his 11th double-figure scoring game of the season and the 32nd of his career with his 11 points.
