Gorman Leads Baseball Past Western Michigan

CLINTON, S.C. –  Behind a career-high five hits from junior Jack Gorman, the Presbyterian College baseball team earned a 17-11 midweek win on Tuesday night over Western Michigan at the PC Baseball Complex. Gorman finished with five hits, including a pair of doubles to pace the offense to the midweek victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
- Western Michigan got on the board first in the opening inning with a solo homer to left to get the early advantage.
- The Blue Hose answered in the second with an RBI single by Gorman to even it at one.
- WMU answered in the next half inning with a two-run double to jump back in front 3-1 over PC.
- Presbyterian answered the Broncos in its half of the third with a solo homer from Ryan Ouzts before a fielder's choice, and a sacrifice fly made it 4-3 Blue Hose after three innings. 
- The Broncos answered in the fourth with a five-run frame to jump back in front 8-4 after 3.5 innings.
- In the home half of the fourth, Presbyterian laid out its biggest inning of the night, which started with Joel Dragoo drawing a bases-loaded walk before a two-run single from Evan Cuervo cut the deficit to one, 8-7.
- PC wasn't done yet as a Jay Wetherington hit by pitch followed by a Trey Fenderson sacrifice fly pushed PC back in front.
- The Blue Hose added a sacrifice fly from Brody Fahr before an RBI double from Gorman made it 11-8 after four.
- PC pushed across two more runs in the fifth off of a fielder's choice and a sac fly that increased it to a 13-8 game.
- In the sixth, Presbyterian pushed four more runs as the Blue Hose took advantage of a pair of Bronco wild pitches before a two-run single made it 17-8 PC.
- The Broncos added a two-run single in the seventh before a sacrifice fly in the ninth to lead to Tuesday's final margin of 17-11 Blue Hose.
 
NOTABLES
- The Blue Hose were led offensively on Tuesday by Gorman, who tallied a career-high five hits, which included matching his career-best with a pair of doubles.
- He became the first Blue Hose since March 24, 2018, to tally five hits in a game as he matched the DI single-game program record for hits with his five. 
- Gorman has reached base safely in all 12 games to begin the season.
- Fenderson and Ouzts both tallied two hits in the contest as Fenderson finished with a team-high four RBIs in the victory.
- Ouzts connected on his sixth career homer in the fourth. It's also the seventh of 11 homers this season that PC has connected on to lead off an inning.
- Dragoo tied for the program's DI record for walks as he drew four free passes in the contest. 
- The 17 runs the Blue Hose scored on Tuesday marks the most scored by a PC team since last May when Presbyterian tallied 22 runs against CSU.
- The Blue Hose improved to 5-1 on the season, totaling 10+ hits following the 13 hits recorded in Tuesday's action.
- As a team, PC drew 14 walks in the victory marking the program's DI single-game record for walks drawn in a game. 
 
UP NEXT
- The Blue Hose continue their five-game week on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. start on ACC Network Extra on the road against Clemson. The Tigers also were in action on Tuesday and grabbed a 4-1 victory over ETSU to improve to 6-6 on the season.
