PC Falls to Fighting Camels in Weekend Closer

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Presbyterian College softball team concluded their second straight Big South Conference weekender on Sunday afternoon, matched up with a Campbell opponent that ended the day with an extended winning streak of seven meetings. A fast start from the Fighting Camels allowed a series sweep in Buies Creek, taking a five-frame decision by an 8-0 margin.

The Blue Hose (19-13, 0-5) were able to reach a couple of hits in the first two frames against the nation's leader in total innings pitched, Isabella Smith, but couldn't capitalize on runners in scoring position in either the 1st or 2nd. From there, the home side published a five-run sequence in the bottom of the 3rd that ended the contest.

NOTABLES
- Sophomore Morgan Hess was penciled in as the starter in the finale, throwing 2.1 innings after staying in the circle for six in a 5-3 setback 24 hours ago. Jenna Greene provided relief in the middle of the bout as Campbell authored their 13th victory in their past 14 appearances, further highlighting PC's grueling strength of schedule to begin Big South action.

- Kaitlyn Tucker and Hess accounted for the team's two connections at the plate on Sunday, unable to finish the trip around the diamond despite consecutive sacrifice bunts in the early going.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Still riding a wave of momentum from a conference record that now reads 8-1, the Fighting Camels have now completed a three-game sweep over the top two schools in the league's preseason coach's poll, having done the same to USC Upstate last week. Campbell finished the set with nine hits in 20 at-bats.

- Four doubles highlighted the home side's offensive sprint, leaving the Blue Hose still in search of their first conference win that would complement an impressive non-league resume. Smith was credited with the victory, her 17th of the campaign to rank just outside the country's top five.

UP NEXT
- Hoping to rebound back in their home venue where they've already claimed 14 W's, Presbyterian will shift gears to a Friday/Saturday trio against Radford in Clinton. The Highlanders split yesterday's DH versus Charleston Southern awaiting the finale, sporting a 10-19 record going into Sunday.

- First pitch on both days at the PC Softball Complex is slotted for 12:00 p.m.
