Blue Hose Felled by Campbell in Wednesday Night League Clash

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College lacrosse team put its unbeaten Big South resume to the test against a league opponent of similar stature through two divisional games, unable to slow down a rampant Campbell attack in the early going that led to a 16-4 decision in the visitors' favor on Wednesday evening.

A difference of 7-0 after 15 minutes was simply too large a deficit for the Blue Hose to come back from despite a valiant effort, ending up on the losing end of a contest where both sides had combined for 50 goals in their prior two conference victories.

NOTABLES
- Reigning Big South Defensive Player of the Week Lilly Phillips again showcased her vast upside with a 10-save performance on a day where the Fighting Camels' offense kept putting pressure on that end of the field, remaining in the box for all 60 minutes while holding the opposition to three scores in each of the ensuing three frames.

- Sophomore rising star Willow Hammond published her third multi-goal outing over the past four appearances in the setback, finding the back of the net twice after her career-high five-score effort at Radford four days ago. Nine out of PC's 11 meetings have resulted in the Georgia native landing at least two points to her individual stat line.

- As a matter of fact, all four of Presbyterian's scoring plays were finished off by an underclassman, tallying a 2nd-period strike by NaQuia Hall that preceded a 3rd-frame cash-in by newbie Avery West, the third goal of her debut round in Clinton.

- Phillips and fifth-year defender Paige Gacek synced up for seven groundball recoveries on Wednesday to make up over half of PC's accumulation in that department, providing backup for an offense that featured 10 on-target shots out of 18 total looks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Presbyterian's quartet of goals featured in between the first and last stanzas, with Hammond now one behind Abby Edmisten's 25 for the campaign thanks to her pair. In the end, Campbell's consistency on the offensive end, coupled with their +13 edge in draw controls, kept PC at arm's length once the seven-score advantage had been established after one.

- The Fighting Camels succeeded on five of their 13 free position opportunities on their way to a 3-0 league start, reeling off 38 shot tries despite turning possession over to the Blue Hose 14 times collectively. Natalie Mellen, Lauren Baldwin, and Alana Lepore split time at keeper for the visitors, who thwarted six Blue Hose attempts between them.

NEXT UP
- A streak of three out of four to take place at Bailey Memorial Stadium continues for head coach Eric Clakeley's roster this Saturday, welcoming Gardner-Webb to town for a 1:00 p.m. opening draw. The Runnin' Bulldogs have captured the last five wins over PC in the teams' recent history, although have stumbled to a 2-9 beginning in 2023.

- Despite the not-so-desirable record next to their name, G-W will roll into Clinton in three days having snapped a three-game losing skid with a 15-11 victory against Radford on Wednesday.
