Benson and Milanovic Collect Doubles Win, PC Falls at No. 4 Kentucky in NCAA Tournament

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Presbyterian's nationally-ranked doubles team of Max Benson and Dusan Milanovic collected a win, but the Presbyterian Blue Hose (16-10) fell to the No. 4 Kentucky Wildcats (25-4), 4-0, on the road in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
 
"Kentucky is a really good team," Presbyterian coach John Collins said. "We wanted to be competitive and we took it to them in spots. We played hard and I am so proud of the guys for their efforts today."
 
DOUBLES
Kentucky won the tightly contested doubles point with wins at number three and two doubles. At number one doubles, Presbyterian's Benson and Milanovic, who are ranked No. 57 in the ITA Rankings, defeated Kentucky's Alafia Ayeni and Taha Baadi, who are ranked No. 28 in the ITA Rankings, 6-1. Kentucky's number three doubles team won 6-1 making the doubles point come down to the winner on court two. Presbyterian's Sebastian Dominguez and Denim Yadav battled but came up short with a 6-4 loss to Kentucky's Joshua Lapadat and JJ Mercer, who are ranked No. 67 in the ITA rankings.
 
SINGLES
Kentucky won three singles matches to claim the overall victory. The Wildcats collected wins at number three, five, and four singles to win the match, 4-0. At number one singles, Presbyterian's Milanovic, who is ranked No. 60 in the ITA Singles Rankings, was leading Kentucky's Liam Draxl, who is No. 13 in the ITA Rankings, 7-6 (7-5), 0-1, when the match was stopped since the Wildcats had clinched the win. On court two, Presbyterian's Benson was leading in the second set, 1-0, after losing a tough-fought first set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-3), against Kentucky's Alafia Ayeni, who is No. 18 in the ITA Rankings, when the match was stopped.
 
UP NEXT
The Blue Hose season continues in the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship which begins on May 22 in Orlando, Fla. Milanovic will play in the singles draw while Benson and Milanovic will play in the doubles draw.
